Question AP Renewal / Change from DVC to non-DVC

Here's one that I haven't seen asked or answered (at least not in the sticky nor in the first page).

I have a DVC-discount Platinum Plus Pass expiring in two weeks, but I no longer live in a DVC household. I would like to change to a Platinum Pass.

I see that the Platinum Pass pre-tax retail price is $894, but the renewal rate is $749 pre-tax.

Would Disney let me change to the Platinum Pass at the renewal rate rather than at the retail price?

My guess is that logically you would be able to pay only the renewal rate, since you truly are renewing an AP, and it shouldn't matter if you got a discount the first time or not. Of course you wouldn't get the DVC renewal rate, but I find it hard to believe they would charge you the full price.

You should be able to call and ask this question and get a definitive answer, and either way... report back with what you learn in case anyone else is searching for the answer in the future.

I know that you can renew to a downgraded pass which is what you're doing. What you paid for your expiring annual pass is irrelevant. You'll pay the renewal rate for the downgraded annual pass at whatever rate you're eligible for (sounds like the standard non-DVC, non-FL Resident rate).

Thanks to all for the feedback. I was able to downgrade to a Platinum Pass at the renewal rate.

Essentially, I went from a DVC Platinum Plus Pass to a Standard Platinum Pass, and they treated me as a continuing Passholder for the purposes of renewal. I didn't need to buy a whole new pass.
