Magicbands included when I book my stay at WDW?

I have never before been to Disney World, but am doing all the research to plan a trip for my family for my mother in law's 60th birthday. She is the one booking everything, so I am trying to understand everything beforehand. When she books our rooms/park tickets, will magicbands be automatically included in the package? Or can she add them on to the package? Or do we need to purchase them separately?

I couldn't figure it out after reading the Disney World FAQs here:

How can I get a MagicBand?

MagicBands are available to Walt Disney World annual passholders and Guests staying at Disney Resort hotels. Guests receive a card with the purchase of park admission. You can purchase a MagicBand:

    • Online at
    • Select Walt Disney World theme park and Resort hotel retail locations
    • Select Downtown Disney retail locations
    • Other select merchandise and retail locations

    Thanks for the help!!!

If you are booking an onsite stay, live in the US and book with enough notice, the bands will be shipped to the address you confirm.

Wow, that paragraph from Disney really isn't clear. Translation: if you stay at a Disney owned hotel (either on a room only reservation or a package), or if you buy an annual pass you will get a free magic band. If you buy a Disney ticket alone and stay off site you will not get a free magic band, you will get a plastic radio frequency identification card but you can elect to purchase a magic band.

It should probably read "MagicBands are provided to" rather than "available to" AND
    "you can otherwise purchase"

Thank you all for clarifying! That is what I thought, but I wasn't sure. The Disney FAQ was definitely confusing!

Just an FYI: You will get MagicBands even if you don't have park tickets as part of your package. If you wish to purchase tickets from another authorized vendor (for example, Undercover Tourist), I believe you can add them to your Magic band using the My Disney Experience website or app.
