I'm shocked Saban played man but not press coverage on the last play. He was obviously scared of Watson running to the perimeter but you gotta lean on your LBs there to keep contain. Every Bama DB should have pressed and just held the WR in front of them. If you get called for holding or PI, who cares...move them to the 1 and force a kick to OT. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy but I can't believe how scared Saban played it with the game on the line.

    Oh, I read this today.

I wish we could find a way to severely punish anyone, or any entity, who puts out a preseason poll. Or a poll before the say, 3rd week of the season. Useless use of bytes

Yes! Begun to think the refs get paid for amount of time they can get themselves on camera. Talk about reviewing the unnecessary! They did a few of those. It's not all on them but man, that got old.

This came up this morning on Mike & Mike. Prevailing wisdom is that the thinking was: "We've got a good defense, let's stop them and hope they screw up the clock management and run out of time." But, it was pretty funny when they asked Spurrier what he thought about the John Harbaugh Defense (play man and just tackle all WRs at the LOS) and he said "You know, now that you fellas are talking about it, I just might've."

If only they could start earlier like the Super Bowl. I know they have to have the championship game on Monday night to avoid the NFL, but I would like for them to figure out something. It's a problem with most sports (MLB, NBA, etc.).

Agree, and I would like to include mock drafts too.

Eh, I don't see any harm in pre-season polls or mock drafts. Tennessee is going to 8-4 whether they're expected to be good or not.

National signing day is in the books, boys and girls! So, how did your team do in recruiting? Any flips? Flops? Where did your team end up in rankings?

Washington lost a major recruit to USC late, but the class looks decent. Would have liked that lineman that went to Stanford.

Washington is in such good hands--I think Petersen is the real deal in a HC. My team, Notre Dame, put on a huge surge at the end of the recruiting cycle. We were able to make some late flips and have a top-15 class with a 4-8 record. I am already looking forward to spring ball! By the way, I would love to have Stanford go back to where they belong-hah! They flipped a CB of ours back in January.

Cal is bad and should feel bad. It doesn't help to fire your coach more than two months after the season is over, which gives the new guy zero time to do anything about recruiting. We open at North Carolina in '17, and I might make the trip to see that in person despite the fact that we'll lose by about 30, because Michigan is at Jerryworld that weekend vs. Florida.

I think Cal got some really good players in Elijah Hicks and Biaggio Ali Walsh, but I agree with what you are saying. The class ended up with 15 recruits, and without looking, that seems pretty low. Hopefully you will be able to find some preferred walk-ons or grad transfers?

Time to dig this thread back up--what is your team and what are you expectations for the year?

Cal. If they make it to four wins, I will be thrilled. I may go to their opener at UNC---a colleague has offered to buy tickets for any Cal alumni who go.

However, I really like the new coaching hire. In 3-4 years, we may not be awful. I can live with "not awful."

More relevantly, Michigan signs my checks. I figure the over under is 9-3. Could easily lose any of Florida, Penn State, Wisconsin, Ohio State. I figure we should win one of those. Losing all four would be disappointing. Winning two would be nice.

Still three weeks away from opening weekend. The sports landscape is so bad that ESPN has resorted to showing Little League regional tournaments.

But, here in Michigan, there is still something to do on the second Sunday in August. My daughter and I are going to go watch folks drive fast and turn left, up close and personal, with seats in a track-side suite and Hot pit/garage passes, courtesy of my friends at Axalta.

Doesn't anyone want to talk College Football anymore? Like 7 weeks since the last post; and it was me,
which is doubly sad, since I'm only on here about once a week now.

Hopefully your answer will still be "no" after the game on the 21st. :-) WE ARE!

I wonder how close it was to calling off the Cal game tonight. It seemed like it may need to be postponed, but I didn't hear anyone say how likely it was. Maybe it will be a good distraction for the people in the area?

I'm a Florida state fan and a Tennessee vol. This season has been so bad for me it's unbelievable.

Josh: I was going to come take credit on behalf of Cal for ruining Washington State's weekend for you, but suspect you no longer want to hear it.

I have a feeling that Michigan is due for some payback for last year's curb-stomping of PSU. For better or worse, the whole world will get to see it via GameDay. If the defense plays well, they might at least keep things respectable, but the offense is bad and should feel bad.
