Another rough afternoon at Animal Kingdom, though as usual the morning Extra Magic Hour and relatively late evening are excellent times to tour. But Safaris hits 40 minutes at 10:30am and then never drops lower through the current closing time of 5:15pm. By 6pm, you could basically walk on any operating attraction. It’s going to be interesting to see what Disney ends up doing with the nighttime safari and other nighttime entertainment until Avatar opens. To run Safaris in the dark during summer, they’d have to operate the Park through at least 10pm to give people an hour and a half of darkness to experience it. On top of that, Disney is expected to run two to three Rivers of Light shows per night with the woeful capacity. We’ll see.
Wow, over eight hours of downtime at Test Track and it still doesn’t look to have that much of an effect on surrounding attractions. Mission: SPACE is then the only operating attraction that’s a new installation during this century? Disney closed Circle of Life for at least two months with no announcement whatsoever and is set to close three more character meet and greets this weekend.
Closures, real and still imagined, don’t seem to have the same effect over at Studios, where Toy Story still routinely hits triple digits. Still, these waits are right around average.
The threat of early morning rain and the 8am regular open were enough to keep waits short in the morning at Magic Kingdom, which helps carry relatively short waits into the early afternoon. We also benefit from above average attraction uptime and long hours of operation. As I’ve mentioned before, more 8am opens would do a lot to mitigate long afternoon waits, allowing those that are able and willing to show up by 7:40am an opportunity to move through the priority attractions first. Then when everybody else arrives at 10am, those able to arrive earlier are already moving on to some of the secondary priorities, which frees up the priority rides. You almost never see Mine Train posted at 30-minute for a full hour.
February 7th is Super Bowl Sunday.
