LucasFilm announced that they will be re-releasing each of the six Star Wars movies in 3D, beginning with The Phantom Menace sometime in 2012. As you are probably aware, Star Tours at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is currently closed for refurbishment while Disney updates the ride with a 3D video. “Star Tours 2” is scheduled to reopen in May 2011, just in time for Star Wars Weekends. Since you asked, I’m as big of a Star Wars fan as anyone. Well, I’m an average Star Wars fan. I only wear my custom made Storm Trooper costume when I’m traveling on the Star Wars convention circuit – not to the grocery store or my kids’ baseball games like some. But I really have no interest in paying $15 times six movies over three years to see them in fake-3D. I’m sure the George Lucas hype machine will change my mind between now and then, but I am standing firm for the time being. More information on the 3D conversion process (led by the creator of Photoshop) is available at USA Today.
