As previously reported back on November 3rd, Playhouse Disney Live on Stage at Hollywood Studios is scheduled to close for refurbishment beginning Sunday January 30th. It is scheduled to reopen Sunday March 6th. The refurbishment will see some major changes to the show, including the title of the attraction, which will be known as “Disney Junior – Live on Stage!” Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Handy Manny, and the Little Einsteins will continue as feature characters in the production, and new characters from “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” will join them. “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” is a new show on Disney Junior that will begin its run in February 2011. It stars several new characters, including Jake, Cubby, Izzy, and their Pirate Parrot friend, Skully. The name change goes along with Disney’s plans to re-brand Playhouse Disney as Disney Junior, also in February 2011. Disney Junior is expected to launch as its own network sometime at the beginning of 2012.
Playhouse Disney is one of only a handful of attractions geared towards preschool age children at Hollywood Studios. The new Disney Junior – Live on Stage! show will likely be very similar to the current iteration. I am currently leading the charge of myself and three other people to have Disney add Toy Story Playland to Hollywood Studios, along with at least two new thrill rides. See some videos of Toy Story Playland at Walt Disney Studios in Paris, here.
