Disney released the May 2016 operating schedule today: http://media.disneywebcontent.com/StaticFiles/ParkHours/WDWTravelAgent_may.pdf. Click “refresh” on your browser to load the newest version. Those traveling in March and April will also be happy to see Fantasmic added nightly during those months. The show was not scheduled in the initial release of the operating hours.
May is, for the most part, an above-average month to visit that sees increasing crowds and temperatures as you proceed through the month. Memorial Day Weekend is a little late this year, falling on Monday May 30th. That weekend, from the 27th to the 29th, is the busiest of the month. Those with flexibility in their schedules will want to visit as early in May as possible with hopes of running into fewer kids already out on summer breaks. Expected crowds are average for the most part.
There’s some amount of chatter that Star Wars Weekends won’t be returning in 2016. Disney’s official site still says, “Coming Summer 2016,” which indicates that the event will return. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to cancel the event since it’s relatively inexpensive and brings in a ton of people, but there may be some logistical problems, in addition to changes coming to how Disney handles the property. I’m not saying Star Wars Weekends aren’t happening – I’m just saying it’s possible that we won’t see the event next year. As far as I know, there has not been a decision made on how long Season of the Force will last and what kind of a segue we’re looking at into another seasonal event.
