Remember those five minute waits last week? We won’t be seeing those again until May. The next seven weeks are going to be busy. We’re looking at slightly more people than most summer days, but we’re not helped by the expanded Extra Magic Hours schedule that we’ll see during most of June, July, and August. This tends to push wait times even higher than they would be during the summer, assuming the same number of people are spread out amongst the Parks. In March and the first two weeks in April, we’ll have more people and fewer overall operating hours, which causes afternoon waits to balloon even higher.
As always, it’s possible to beat crowds of any size by arriving prior to Park opening and heading straight to the headlining attractions. Use FASTPASS throughout the day at the attractions you couldn’t get to in the morning or would like to ride again and you can still have success, despite heavy afternoon crowds.
Here’s what we’re dealing with today. All wait times are taken between 1:00pm and 1:15pm and are based on what’s posted outside of the attraction.
Animal Kingdom (Not Recommended):
Dinosaur: 25 minutes
Expedition Everest: 45 minutes
It’s Tough to be a Bug: 15 minutes
Kali River RapidsK: 10 minutes
Kilimanjaro Safaris: 60 minutes
Not a “crazy day” at the Animal Kingdom, but we’ll be seeing shorter wait times tomorrow. It’s a cool 65 degrees at the moment, which causes people to stay away from Kali River Rapids in particular.
Living with the Land: 15 minutes
Maelstrom: 20 minutes
Mission Space Green Team: 15 minutes
Mission Space Orange Team: 20 minutes
Soarin’: 80 minutes
Spaceship Earth: 10 minutes
Test Track: 70 minutes
Long afternoon wait times at Soarin’ and Test Track are inevitable when crowds are high. That’s why we visit them first thing in the morning or with FASTPASS as soon as possible. They simply don’t have the capacity to handle heavy crowds. While these wait times appear high for a “Recommended Park,” they will be much higher on Tuesday and Friday and Epcot remains the best Park to visit.
Hollywood Studios (Not Recommended):
Backlot Tour: 20 minutes
Great Movie Ride: 30 minutes
Rock N Roller Coaster: 120 minutes
Tower of Terror: 60 minutes
Toy Story Mania: 120 minutes
Pretty rough at the Studios thanks to evening Extra Magic Hours and the number of people who skipped visiting over ESPN the Weekend. Crowds were much lighter in the morning, but these crowds are going to stay thick throughout the day and throughout evening Extra Magic Hours.
Magic Kingdom (Not Recommended):
Big Thunder Mountain: 70 minutes
Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin: 45 minutes
Haunted Mansion: 40 minutes
It’s A Small World: 30 minutes
Peter Pan’s Flight: 75 minutes
Pirates of the Caribbean: 40 minutes
Space Mountain: 80 minutes
Splash Mountain: 80 minutes
Winnie the Pooh: 50 minutes
When you start seeing 30+ minute waits at high capacity attractions like Haunted Mansion, it’s a small world, and Pirates of the Caribbean, you know it’s busy.
It’s important to note that these are basically peak wait times at each of the Parks. Perhaps with the exception of Hollywood Studios, we’ll be seeing lower wait times later in the afternoon and waits in the morning are always considerably lower. We’ll be checking in on crowds throughout the week to see how wait times fluctuate.
