Disney released a new promotion today for stay dates of January 2, 2011 through April 16, 2011. This is a percent-off “room only” discount, meaning the percent savings is off the cost of the room only. You can still add the Disney Dining Plans or Magic Your Way theme park tickets, but those parts of the Package are not discounted. This promotion cannot be combined with any other savings or promotions, such as the Free Dining Offer, Florida Resident Discount, Gift Card Promotion, AAA savings, or anything else. All savings come off the full “rack rate” price of the resort room. You can view a chart of the rack rates for the various resorts here. The savings with this promotion are as follows:
- Save 20% at Disney World Value Resorts and the Animal Kingdom Lodge if you book by 12/31/10; save 15% if you book between 1/1/11-2/13/11
- Save 25% at Disney World Moderate Resorts and the Polynesian Resort if you book by 12/31/10; save 20% if you book between 1/1/11-2/13/11
- Save 35% at the rest of the Disney Deluxe Resorts if you book by 12/31/10; save 30% if you book between 1/1/11-2/13/11
- Save 35% at Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts if you book by 12/31/10; save 30% if booked between 1/1/11-2/13/11
As you can see, the savings are slightly higher if you book by December 31st, 2010. Thus, the “book early and save” title. There are currently no blackout dates and you can book this promotion over President’s Day Weekend, Martin Luther King Weekend, Marathon Weekend, or any other dates between January 2nd and April 16th. If you have already booked a vacation package without a discount, call Disney or your travel agent and ask that they apply this promotion.
Note that some of these discounted dates are also valid for the Free Dining Promotion. I have written an extensive explanation comparing the Free Dining Promotion to Room-Only Discounts and the now-expired Gift Card Promotion. It will give you some additional insight into how you can save the most money on your Disney World vacation and the positive and negative aspects of the various promotions. See it here: https://www.easywdw.com/savings/disney-world-2010-2011-free-dining-promotion/
In short, Free Dining is the bigger savings in almost all scenarios if you are staying at a Value or Moderate Resort, depending on whether or not you will “take full advantage” of the Dining Plan. The Percent-Off Discount may be a better deal at the Deluxe resorts, but it depends on how much the room originally costs and how many people are on the reservation.
It is very easy to price out your vacation with the various offers and compare them. Simply go to http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/special-offers/, click on the offer links, and input your vacation details. Make sure that you are selecting the correct Magic Your Way ticket type and resort room type. Disney is tricky about adding Park Hopper and Water Parks & More automatically to Magic Your Way tickets depending on what type of package you are selecting. To compare the price of two Packages accurately, you need to make sure that the two packages are identical.
Overall, this is the same sort of promotion Disney has been running for the last couple of years. The savings can be significant if you choose to stay at a Deluxe or Villa Resort, but will also be small if you select a Value resort. For example, 20% off a Value Resort room in most of January would result in a savings of less than $20 per night. However, you can easily save $100 per night or more at one of the Deluxe Resorts.
The savings are also larger if you are the owner of a Disney World Annual Pass. For Annual Passholders, the savings are as follows:
- Save 32% at the Disney World Value Resorts, Animal Kingdom Lodge, and Polynesian Resort
- Save 35% at the Disney World Moderate Resorts
- Save 42% at the rest of the Disney World Deluxe Resorts
- Save 42% at the Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts
The stay dates with an Annual Pass are the same as for the general public – January 2, 2011 through April 16, 2011. The Disney Dining Plan can also be added.
