Disney released the April 2014 operating schedule today at the usual address: http://media.disneywebcontent.com/StaticFiles/DTA-Domestic/pdf/ParkHours/WDW_Operating_Calendar_apr.pdf. As always, this is the “official” operating schedule that will show up on DisneyWorld.com toward the end of the month.
The week of March 30th – April 5th will see heavy crowds similar to most of March with spring break in full swing. The following week, from April 6th – 12th, will be the least crowded week since the first week in March with average crowds. April 13th – 19th will see the heaviest crowds of the spring break season with capacity closures possible, in addition to longer operating hours and more Extra Magic Hour opportunities. April 20th to 26th is another peak week, but crowds are lower than the week before. Once April 27th rolls around, crowds drop off significantly for a few weeks until late May.
With cooler temperatures than the summer, a spring break vacation is more pleasant than a trip in June – August for most people. Crowds are similar, but operating hours are long and evening entertainment is more plentiful than the off-season. There are also no Mickey’s Parties or special events to plan around, which may or may not be a good thing. If you can wait until the end of April to visit, you’ll be in the best shape. April 6th – 12th should prove to be the least crowded week from March 7th – April 27th if you’re trying to pick a date inside that window.
