Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover

May 12, 2010 ~ 1 minute read3 Comments

Opened: July 1, 1975.

Location:

The entrance is located near Astro Orbiter (underneath the ride itself) and directly across from Carousel of Progress.

Extra Magic Hours: Morning, Evening.

Ride Length: 10 minutes.

FastPass+: Not offered.

Type: Peoplemover.

Similar To: Unique.

Requirements: None.

Scary Factor: Very low. You do travel about 20 feet off the ground but only those with a serious fear of heights should be bothered.

What to Expect: Riders board slow moving, four-person cars that run via linear synchronous motors embedded in the track above Tomorrowland.

In other words, the cars emit no pollution because they’re pulled by magnets. The highlight of the tour is the rare glimpse of the Space Mountain track as riders pass through the dome where the ride is housed. The Transit Authority provides a recorded introduction to the other Tomorrowland attractions as well.

During the ride, you will also get a chance to view several dioramas of how Walt Disney envisioned the original EPCOT theme park to look.

When To Go: In the afternoon when waits peak elsewhere.

Ride When Space Mountain is Down: If Space Mountain is temporarily down for repairs or otherwise closed, ride the Transit Authority for a chance see Space Mountain with the lights on.

Name Change: Disney added “PeopleMover” to the name of the Tomorrowland Transit Authority on August 6th, 2010.

Expect to Wait: Waits are usually less than five minutes and shouldn’t exceed ten.

Rating: 8/10.

Commentary: This is a great way to spend ten relaxing minutes circling Tomorrowland.

I love the Peoplemover! This is one of my favorite rides. It’s not exciting, there is no real action, but it’s been a favorite since I was a kid. It’s relaxing and gives some great views of the Tomorrowland rides.

Does the People Mover go on any hills (or drops) or go upside down on loops/ corkscrews?

Of course not, it’s a fairly slow tour of Tomorrowland – not only are there no drops, but the track stays completely level throughout the ride. When you enter Space Mountain, it goes pitch black, but nothing else happens.

Definitely go on it, it’s very underrated and one of my favourite rides at Disney.
