Opened: Barnstormer originally opened on October 1, 1996 as part of Mickey’s Toontown Fair.  It was re-imagined as The Barnstormer Featuring the Great Goofini as part of the Storybook Circus section of Fantasyland on March 12, 2012.

Extra Magic Hours: Morning, Evening.

Ride Length: Less than a minute.

Type: Roller coaster.

Similar To: A mild carnival coaster.

Requirements: Must be 35” or taller to ride.

Scary Factor: Low for the most part. Barnstormer has a top speed of 20 miles per hours and a maximum height of about 30 feet, making it the tamest roller coaster at Disney World. It’s designed specifically for the younger set and they should have a good idea if they want to ride it by watching the ride a few times. And if they end up boarding and don’t enjoy it, the ride will be over in literally a few seconds.

What to Expect: Riders board roller coaster cars themed like Goofy’s stunt plane. The seats are fairly compact, but should have enough room for an adult and one child, depending on size. Taller guests, especially those with back or neck problems, may want to skip because the back of the car is very short and lacks proper support for anyone over four or five feet tall. The coaster cars are also low to the ground, which may make it difficult for people with mobility problems to get in and out of the vehicle. The track is fairly tame with only minor drops and a couple moderately tight turns. While part of the queue is partially covered using themed umbrellas, it can get very hot in the summer, particularly in the extended queue. Also, the ride lasts only 59 seconds. About half of that time is spent on the initial lift and the slowdown back to the loading area, making the Barnstormer the shortest ride at Disney World.

Where to Sit: Request the front row for the best views.

Because the seat backs are so low and most riders are short, views from the back aren’t much worse. It’s rare that someone requests a row.

FastPass+: Yes, low priority. Most people will want to select higher priority attractions that will save more time and won’t be available as a 4th or subsequent selection.

What You Miss Using FastPass+:

Very little. The FastPass+ line travels along the same path as standby.

Total Average Experience Time with FastPass+: 10 minutes.

Expect to Wait:

When To Go: Visit before 10:30am, in the final two hours of operation, or with FastPass+.

Rating: 4/10

Commentary: This is a tough one to rate with just one number. It’s entirely skippable for most adults due to its short duration and general lack of theming. The new queue is much better, but the ride itself lacks a cohesive theme and the track layout is exactly the same as when it officially sat in Toontown Fair.  For youngsters, Barnstormer may provide the courage they need to ride some of Disney World’s more intense attractions, so you may want to visit this and Thunder Mountain early on in your vacation. While it’s only a minute long, it is a very fun minute for most kids under the age of ten. Visit before 10:30am and you can be on and off in ten minutes, which makes it worth most people’s time. You don’t want to wait 20+ minutes for it though, especially because it’s so short.
