Teppan Edo

Picture review:

Teppan Edo dinner

Food Type: Japanese Steakhouse

Location: Teppan Edo shares a lobby with Tokyo Dining above Mitsukoshi Department Store in the Japan Pavilion. Check in for your meal or inquire about a table on the right hand side before heading up the stairs.

Dining Plan: 1 Table Service.

Cost:  Appetizers: $4-$10; Sushi: $10 – $16; Entrées: $18-$32. Kids; $9 – $14.

Discounts: Does not participate in Tables in Wonderland; 10% Annual Passholder lunch on Monday – Friday only; 10% Disney Vacation Club lunch.

Menu:

One menu (12pm – Park Close): https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/dining/epcot/teppan-edo/menus

Bar: None. The outdoor Sake bar offers sake, mixed drinks, and beer.

Setting:  Teppan Edo is a hibachi grill restaurant, which means guests are seated around a grill where the food is prepared and cooked in front of you by a traditional Japanese hibachi chef.

Advantages:

  • A fun experience for adults and children, especially if you haven’t experienced a hibachi meal in the past.
  • The quality of the ingredients is high and all meals are prepared fresh on the grill. Food is the most consistent of any Disney World restaurant.
  • Service is usually excellent.
  • Kids can order a smaller portion of steak, chicken, or vegetables.
  • Half of the entrees are $30 or more, making this a good value on the Dining Plan.

Disadvantages:

  • Loud, expensive.
  • Each grill seats eight guests. Parties with fewer people will be seated with others. This is usually a fun way to meet other Disney enthusiasts, but you never know who’s going to sit down next to you. It could be me.
  • The experience relies heavily on the hibachi chef.  Some are more “fun” and do tricks and tell stories during dinner while others are more traditional and say almost nothing.

Tips: Consider dinner because the menu is the same as lunch.

Value: Above average. Many cities have hibachi grill restaurants (think Benihana) with similar options and lower prices. However, Teppan Edo’s food is probably higher quality and the Japanese hibachi chefs add a great deal to the atmosphere.

Reputation: Teppan Edo receives some of the best reviews from the majority of people that dine here.

Although we have visited WDW every year for that past ten years, this is one of the restaurants we never got around to enjoying. Strictly on your recommendation, we tried it out and were not disappointed! Food, service and of course “the show” were all excellent. Our only disappointment was that there were no children sitting at our table. By watching them at other tables, it seemed that this is a wonderful experience for them, at least those who were not falling asleep in their noodles and veggies!

    Thank you for the suggestion!

my fam and I have been trying to dine at Teppan Edo for 2yrs.. we visit Epcot every 8 to 10 weeks living only one hr away.. we finally obtain a reservation on Feb. 10th at 8:40pm.. my wife and I have eaten at many tepannyaki ( hibachi) style Japanese restaurants.. we were very disappointed ! No pre-entre (no soup, no greens, nothing), the steak was low end cut, they did not offer filet mignon period, the shrimp were NOT whole shrimp but medium to small shrimp chopped into pieces and just dumped onto the grill.. my son always enjoyed and we do as well a talented cook doing all the special moves but our cook was very elderly with no special anything, he just dumped everything on the grill very unceremonously, the price was inline with other Japanese tepannyaki style restaurants but there was NO value to what we received.. my fam and I will never return there.. Shame on you Disney to depend on a captive cliente to fill your subpar restaurant..

Teppan Edo is one of our all time favs at WDW, but I must admit the value is not as good as it once was. We used to get more choices for appetizers, and I really miss the squid steaks. They also have cut corners on some of the ingredients. You no longer get your items flavored with butter. Since I have a corn starch allergy, I can’t eat their sticky rice. The rice is what makes you feel “full” in this meal, so while I still love the experience and the food, I often am still hungry at the end of the meal.

Our family just returned from a Disney World trip and we were delighted with the Teppan Edo restaurant. When booking reservations for the trip I was a little hesitant reading some of the reviews above, thinking perhaps they have declined. However, my wife still wanted to give it a try as we’d never eaten there before.
I’m happy to report they still do (or again) have fillet mignon which was very tasty and tender. They also use whole shrimp, medium sized though the chef does cut them up as part of the preparation. We were on the Disney dinning plan so price wasn’t really a concern. Anyhow, I just wanted to add my recent experience in case anyone was on the fence about it – highly recomended.

Do they have that orange shrimp sauce? I think they call it yum-yum sauce?
