Studio Catering Company

8/26/15 Update: Menu updated and items added.

Studio Catering Co Hollywood Studios Disney World

Location: On the Streets of America behind Honey I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure.  High Octane Refreshments (a bar) sits adjacent.

Food Type: Sandwiches and Salads.

Dining Plan: One quick service credit and a couple items count as snacks.

Menu:

Hollywood Studios Studio Catering Beverages Menu

Unique Items: All entrees are more or less unique, whether in their ingredients or preparation.

Advantages:

  • Plenty of covered seating. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it full.
  • Lines are usually short and service is fast.
  • Sandwiches and Salads are freshly prepared and pressed (where applicable).
  • A couple of quality, lighter/vegetarian options.

Disadvantages:

  • No indoor, air-conditioned seating.
  • Menu is relatively limited.
  • It often closes by 6:30pm, even when crowds are heavy. Check your Times Guide to verify when it closes and plan to visit accordingly.

Value: Above average. $10 is about how much you’re going to spend on an adult entree at Walt Disney World and the sandwiches here are above average in quality and size.

Reputation: Most people enjoy the food here, though it isn’t as popular as Toy Story Pizza Planet with the name recognition.  It’s unlikely that you’ll have a poor experience.

Food Choices:

Pulled Beef Brisket Sandwich:

Braised Beef Brisket, Muenster Cheese, Arugula and Horseradish Sauce on a Ciabatta Roll served with French Fries. Here, the arugula and horseradish sauce (which is the same as what’s served on Backlot Express’s burger) are on the side.

Studio Catering Pulled Beef Brisket Sandwich Review

It’s stuffed with genuinely pulled beef on a fresh roll with a slice of cheese underneath. The sauce would add some heat and the arugula some crunch. The meat was a little dry without it. I think I would prefer to see the cheese melted. but it otherwise got two thumbs up.

Deli Sandwich:

Smoked Ham, Salami, Pepperoni, Provolone, Creamy Caesar Pesto, Lettuce, Diced Tomatoes, Kalamata Olives, Pepperoncini Peppers and Balsamic Glaze served with House-made Chips. That’s quite the list of ingredients and despite so much going on, the sandwich fell a little flat with the immense amount of bread surrounding it. Even so, the flavors were fresh and unique with the olives, peppers, and balsamic contrasting well with the creamy garlic pesto.

Spicy Chipotle Ranch Chicken:

On the positive side, it wasn’t just a defrosted and microwaved Tyson chicken patty like they serve at Pinocchio Village Haus, but that’s about the best thing that can be said about it. There was no spice to speak of and no kick from the small dab of chipotle ranch sauce on top. Overall, it was extremely bland and Disney is so cheap that they don’t even slap a slice of pepper jack cheese or something on it. A tub of Ken’s ranch did make it taste better, but that’s true of most things. It’s a shame because the chicken sandwich it is replacing was a lot more flavorful.

Turkey and Cheese Panini

Turkey, Swiss, Provolone and Honey Mustard on Sourdough Bread served with Tomato Basil Soup. The bread was lightly buttered and toasted and the cheese was perfectly melted around the turkey. The flavorful soup had a nice smooth texture with some hints of basil. Very good and very recommended.

Vegetarian Wrap:

With zucchini, mushrooms, roasted red peppers, tomatoes, watercress, provolone, and garlic herb spread on a spinach tortilla. This is the kids’ version, which is half the size of the adult portion. I thoroughly enjoyed this – there’s a couple nice thick slices of cheese that serve as the prominent flavor with the zucchini that adds some crunch along with the other freshly sliced vegetables. I don’t think I picked up much flavor from the garlic herb spread, but I also didn’t taste it without it. It’s definitely one of the better vegetarian options in the theme park and a lot more interesting than most quick service vegetable burgers and cheese pizzas.

I’m not sure if this perspective offers a better look at the size of the mini-wrap, but it made for a nice, sort of light meal with the substituted fries and soft drink.

Greek Salad:

Romaine, Tomato, Cucumber, Kalamata Olives, Feta Cheese, and Greek Dressing Tossed to Order.

It’s the standard Disney size, cheaper than most because it doesn’t come with protein. I’m surprised they don’t have the option to add chicken or something. It’s otherwise good for what it is – perhaps heavy-handed on the cucumber and light on the feta. But it’s certainly one of the cheaper, healthier entrees you’ll find.

Seating:

Studio Catering Company has a ton of outdoor tables, most of which are covered.  It’s a relatively cool area for being outside, but it can still get hot when there are a lot of people and temperatures are high.

Question- I’ve noticed at several restaurants that offer chips as a side, you’ve mentioned you can leave them off and save 2 dollars- is that the same at a place like this with fries as a side??

  2. josh says

Yep. I tend to think the fries are worth the $2 as compared to the one ounce bag of chips, but you can order most any quick service item without the side.

Often we’ve stuck the chips in our bag to snack on later- for 2 bucks i can stash some lays packs in there….and usually we have left over fries between the two of us…I’m thinking one could get the fries, the other not, and well share. Hard to believe with all my Disney experience I didn’t know this! Thanks josh!
