“Kawaii – Japan’s Cute Culture” opened in October 2015 in the Japan Pavilion in the Bijutsu-kan Gallery space. It replaced “Spirited Beasts from Ancient Stories to Anime Stars,” which debuted back in 2010. These sorts of cultural exhibits have a shelf life of about five years, so it’s likely that what you see below will be presented through sometime around October 2020. If you’re unfamiliar with where the exhibit is located, you basically head straight back through the Pavilion, over the bridge, and then take a left across from the Kidcot station and before arriving at the Mitsukoshi Department Store.

Visit at your leisure. There’s typically only a handful of people looking around.
Cool! I like the glowing eyes mannequin

This looks really interesting. I lived in Japan for a few years and recognise a lot of this. So many little details to examine. Will definitely ch ck this out n txt time I am there.
Any idea how long this will stick around. We will be there in October/November, hope its sticking around for a while.
oh good lord i’d never get my 11 yr old daughter out of there…
Do they a lot of this kind of stuff (other than Hello Kitty) for sale in the department store? My last few trips I have searched the whole store looking for some of the Japanese stationery items that are so popular on Instagram.
Japan Pavilion is one of my favourites. Those pictures look amazing, can’t wait to go again!! Thank you, great pictures and info.
I love visiting this part of the Japan pavilion, regardless of what display is there. If you need a break, it’s usually quiet and relaxing with plenty of seating.
Disney should license salaryman. Pretty sure there’s a franchise there.
Would love to know the song list that plays there
