June 2016 Disney World Operating Schedule Updated

Edit 3: Magic Kingdom will open at 8am instead of 9am on June 5, 6, 8, 9, 15, 16, 20, 22, 23, and 27.

Edit 2: Disney extended the hours at Hollywood Studios to 9am-10pm and added the Star Wars Fireworks at 9:45pm on dates that weren’t previously extended from June 17th through the end of the month. The new Star Wars fireworks show is expected to begin June 17th.

Edit: Extra Magic hours changed on Sunday June 5th and Thursday June 9th. Epcot now has morning Extra Magic Hour on June 5th and Hollywood Studios has morning Extra Magic Hour on June 9th. The full operating schedule is available here: http://media.disneywebcontent.com/StaticFiles/ParkHours/WDWTravelAgent_june.pdf.

Disney made a round of updates to the June operating schedule today. They have still not confirmed nighttime entertainment or showtimes for Rivers of Jungle Book for June, though the Park is staying open until 11pm nightly. At Magic Kingdom, a second Electrical Parade has been added on the majority of days. Interestingly, on some of the busier days of the month, they extended the close to 12am but didn’t add a second Electrical Parade, which is kind of interesting. Unlike last year, when we saw 13 regular 8am opens, there are currently no regular 8am opens this year. The Park also closes at 11pm every night except for four. Last year it never closed earlier than 12am and was open until 1am on seven nights. At Hollywood Studios, it looks like the Star Wars fireworks will be scheduled on just 13 nights over the course of the month. You may remember that they were nightly from January 1 – April 30 before moving to four nights each week in May. Those that want to see the fireworks may need to switch their schedule around though the show is typically scheduled on days that were expected to be busier. Obviously most days with the later close and fireworks will be busier than days with an earlier close without fireworks.

As I mentioned previously, attendance is now trending down at Walt Disney World, helped along by price hikes, but mostly due to fewer visitors from South America and particularly Brazil. South America had been a strong segment for the last few years as they typically spent more money than domestic visitors.

I won’t explicitly mention that the close at Animal Kingdom has been extended to 11pm for every day, but it has.

It looks like the Star Wars fireworks are on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Do you think that schedule will continue through July?

  2. Dave says

What’s the best plan to get from Fantasmic to the Star Wars Fireworks? Is it one or the other? Or can you easily leave Fantasmic and get to a good viewing location for Star Wars?

    • Heather says

We did this during a crowd level 8 in April. Fantasmic wrapped up at 9pm and the fireworks began at 9:15. We were able to get down to the chinese theater and have a pretty decent view. The fireworks were awesome.
I’ve heard there is an alternate exit they sometimes open, that takes you from the theater around to the front of the park. Has anyone gone this route? Not sure if it helps to get a better location for viewing.

  3. George says

Is there any chance they would add the Star Wars fireworks nightly (either current or new)? They did say the new show would debut in June, how is that going to work? Will they just be on the dates currently scheduled throughout the month? Disney is making it very hard to schedule when they keep tweaking the schedule….

  4. D3 says

Glad to see the extra hours, but now I have to re-tweak my schedule. I think I can now see the Star War Firework! Just have to hold out for two more weeks for them to squeeze in something at AK. :)

  5. Larry says

Clever of them to (a) make meticulous advance planning absolutely necessary, then (b) negate months of planning for thousands of people by changing park hours and attraction frequency well inside their 30-day mark.

This should help improve guest satisfaction by a large measure…

    • Kimberly says

^ Agreed! My thoughts EXACTLY. In fact I am switching my days around now… means I will lose breakfast and lunch at BOG, but hey, we’ll see those SW fireworks!

  6. jenn says

the calendar still shows HS as closing at 8:30pm with no fireworks listed.. or is there another calendar coming out?

    • Tammy says

The schedule was last edited on May 12th. Also wondering when an updated vsrsion should be available.

  7. Amy says

Long time lurker, first time poster. Firstly, thanks for everything on this job – so helpful for first-visit-in-a-long-timers like me!

Secondly, is there a ‘last entry’ time to the parks? We’ve got a reservation at Narcoosee’s and were hoping to see Wishes from there. We were originally planning to head home after that, but now there’s a second electrical parade I was wondering whether we’d be allowed back into MK to see the parade, or if we’d likely get there too late to be let in?

    • Heather says

You’ll have no problem entering to see the second parade; they allow guests in right up to closing time. Just make sure to plan enough time to get in to MK. Sounds like a great evening 😀 There is definitely something hypnotic to that parade.

  8. Hope says

I will be going to magic kingdom on June 6th for a one day visit. I have never seen the welcome show and was hoping to get a chance to see it this time around. Now that the park will be opening at 8am instead of 9, what time will they have the welcome show?

  9. Linda Frasco says

Thanks Josh! Is there any news about the Early Morning Magic Hours for the summer? Can I assume that it will not be offered due to the park opening at 8am most days now? Can we predict that it will open early in July and August as well? This will certainly change many dining plans for many people. Larry’s earlier comments were so true. We spend so much time planning and making reservations based on the information that is released, only to have it completely negated weeks before a trip.

Then I feel so guilty for complaining about such troubles… we are fortunate enough to be going to Disney World and must remember that! :)

    • Bill B. says

It’s understandable to feel ungrateful when complaining about WDW while so many would jump at half the chance. With that being said, the money we spend shouldn’t result in a trip plan filled with question marks and back up plans. Why is it so painful for them to release info in a timely fashion?

  10. iak8 says

Arrrrrrgggggh. We’re leaving 2 weeks from tomorrow. Luckily, the only day we’re really affected is Thursday, June 23rd at the MK. I guess I’m off to try to adjust my FP+ for that day.

  11. HelenB says

Josh, with these changes (more Star Wars fireworks, extended MK hours, etc.) do you have any changes to your crowd calendar recommendations?

  12. Melissa c says

Thanks for update. I intentionally made my magic kingdom day the day they offered the early entry package. I didn’t purchase that but do have an 8 am be our guest. I figured they wouldn’t move off their 9 am open time on those dates. Josh indicated there wasn’t much competition from the early guests being let in at 7:45. I think this is a better strategy bc that way you know Disney won’t bump the open time and you won’t be scrambling backing everything up an hour.

  13. Nicola Morris says

Will parks open the earlier time and close later time in July? Also will star wars fireworks be on in July?
