As we descend into the bowels of irrelevance once again, I just wanted to say thank you for holding my hand throughout the descension .
Actually, how about some super boring pictures from today at Hollywood Studios? I feel like that will help clear the cloud of irrelevance that seems to follow this website wherever it lurks. And believe me. It lurks.
Mickey is still chillin’ outside Hollywood Studios with some broomsticks.
Arriving just before 3:45pm. This website has Hollywood Studios as the “most recommended Park,” while TouringPlans.com lists it as “neutral.” Whatever that means. I guess they are the Switzerland of crowd calendar websites. Undercover Tourist has also expanded their crowd calendar as evidenced here: http://www.undercovertourist.com/planning/when-to-visit.html. If you really want to make yourself crazy. Personally, I can’t get my head around it because they start with Monday on the far left.
Doesn’t seem too bad considering the “7” overall crowd level and time of day. You might remember the last time we were at Hollywood Studios:
Where we got to ride The Great Movie Ride a lot.
Heading up toward Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular and Star Tours.
I’m sure these aren’t new, but they caught my eye and I don’t think we’ve zoomed in on them before. I almost bought one to record my upcoming podcasting series with.
Our favorite cast member is still gainfully employed by the Walt Disney Company. I can assure you everyone around him is a normal sized human being.
Phineas and Ferb have a decent line here around 4pm. We’ll see a much shorter line in about two hours.
The Cars remain decently popular as well.
It’s getting to be too hot to suffer through Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show.
We’ve got three shows to help battle the sizable spring break crowds. The people streaming in above are going to be sitting out in the sun on metal bleachers for the next hour and fifteen minutes or so. Sucks.
I have no idea why I took this picture. And no idea why I’m posting it here.
Boob Statue, Boob Statue, wherefore art thou Boob Statue?
This is the sort of crowd you want to see backed up at the Backlot Tour. Yes, I realize you can’t really see the backup. But it means that the actual wait is going to be shorter. If you arrive and there’s no one in line, it probably means that the previous preshow just began. If there’s no one waiting, grab a pickle from the nearby Coke stand and mingle a bit amongst yourselves.
Just long enough for the next preshow to start. Very cool shades and beard by the way, Backlot Tour bro. That might actually be Joaquin Phoenix. I’m not sure if he’s working here as part of another gag film or really needs the money.
Over to Pixar Place and Toy Story Midway Mania.
No line out here is always a good sign.
If you follow Toy Story wait times, you would know that this isn’t bad at all for this time of day.
The $10.50 Chili Cheese Dog stand is gone outside of what was once the Prince Caspian exhibit.
Voyage of the Little Mermaid continues to offer FASTPASS during the busy spring break time period. We should continue to see FASTPASS here through April 14th. As you may recall, the FASTPASS return window is 10 minutes. In this case, 4:50pm to 5:00pm for a show that officially begins at 5:00pm. The FASTPASS here would get you into the theater before that standby riff-raff. By this time of day, FASTPASSes for Toy Story and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster should be just about gone (in Toy Story’s case, definitely gone). If you’ve had your fill of Star Tours and Tower of Terror, you might want to pull FASTPASSes for this if you have interest. There’s no reason not to.
Certainly a decent number of people on Sunset Boulevard.
But still just a 20 minute posted wait at Tower of Terror. Beats the 80+ minutes we were seeing last week.
Anything look good?
Lunch is at Rosie’s All American Cafe this afternoon. It’s part of the larger Sunset Ranch Market that’s located on Sunset Boulevard across from the entrances to Beauty and the Beast and Fantasmic.
Very robust menu. Full menu, etc. is available here: https://www.easywdw.com/menus-and-seating/rosies-all-american-cafe-menu-sunset-boulevard-minor-quick-service/.
I think I’ve had every single entree at every single quick service at Hollywood Studios. That isn’t me bragging. You should feel sorry for me. Pat me on my back. Thank you.
This was actually a decent hamburger with most everything that is good in this world. Obviously we’re missing bacon, beer, and several things that can’t be mentioned on a family friendly(?) website about Walt Disney World. Disney really needs to do something with their buns, though. They are complete garbage and the thought of somehow having a “healthy” wheat bun in between onion rings, cheddar cheese, and what I’m sure is 5% lean ground beef is somewhere between laughable and absurd. Can I get a Wonder Classic White, please? It would make their burgers and dogs so much better.
We’ll pop into Characterpalooza. To remind you:
Characterpalooza is an unadvertised character meet and greet session that usually features six to ten characters inside the Animation Building. The timing and number of characters depend on when Fantasmic begins. If Fantasmic isn’t scheduled, characters will appear from 4:50pm to 6:50pm. If the first Fantasmic begins before 7:30pm, then Characterpalooza will not occur because the characters will be getting ready for Fantasmic. If the first Fantasmic begins at 7:30pm, characters will appear from 4:50pm to 5:10pm. If the first Fantasmic begins at 8:00pm, characters will appear from 4:50pm to 5:50pm. If the first Fantasmic begins at 8:30pm, characters will appear from 4:50pm to 5:50pm. If the first Fantasmic begins at 9:00pm, characters will appear from 4:50pm to 6:30pm.
Today, we have Fantasmic at 8:30pm, so characters should appear from 4:50pm to 5:50pm. I was inside the Animation Building at 4:45pm and the characters began appearing right at 4:50pm.
This was a good haul with several characters that very rarely appear:
The Queen of Hearts is a riot. Of course you must bow before greeting her. And don’t even think about touching her. A child tried to hug her dress and the Queen could not have been more displeased. After the child finished up, the Queen brushed off whatever germs remained. Too funny.
We’ve got Max meeting with Goofy. Goofy is common but you almost never see Max out unless he’s training.
Samesies with Bolt.
Characters can meet all throughout the Animation Building – not just in the main area where Winnie the Pooh and Sorcerer Mickey meet. This is further inside the building right near the exit to the Animation Building tour. At Epcot, you’re looking at a 10 to 20 minute wait to meet Chip and Dale. At Magic Kingdom, it can easily be 30+ minutes. And you’re in the sun in both locations. Here, we have a two minute wait.
Poor Meeko couldn’t pay someone to take a picture with him (her?), which basically makes him the Stitch of Characterpalooza. He’s also in a bit of an unfortunate location along the walkway that connects the Animation Building with the Art of Animation Store.
That was it for the first set of characters from 4:50pm to 5:20pm. At 5:20pm, another set of characters comes out:
Mary Poppins and a Penguin. Mary Poppins is easy to find in Magic Kingdom or Epcot, but it’s rare to see her with a Penguin.
Minnie with Pluto. Both common characters, but you don’t ordinarily see them together. These two had the longest lines – maybe 20 people.
Tweedledee and Tweedledum. You won’t have an opportunity to meet them unless they appear at Characterpalooza.
Evil Queen is another hoot. She is decidedly not excited to see you. LOL!
I have absolutely no idea what’s going on in this picture.
But he seems pretty happy about it.
Lines for Mary Poppins were nonexistent, so she’s looking around at the artwork with these guests.
If you’re interested in character Meet and Greets, you can’t beat Characterpalooza at the Studios. Or if you’re interested in meeting characters, but hate the usual lines, Characterpalooza might also be for you. I met several rare characters with virtually no wait.
Back over to Phineas and Ferb. It’s just after 6pm and we have less than a dozen people in line.
No appreciable wait at Star Tours with FASTPASS return times 40 minutes out.
Posted wait times at 6:20pm.
Some new-ish merchandise or otherwise some stuff we haven’t seen before:
Just chillin’ bro. Some good looking stuff. I want that black t-shirt with the classic characters.
