Disney Confirms Animal Kingdom Jungle Book Show Debut, Dining Package, Frozen Ever After Opening, Soarin’s Original Film Coming Back for a Limited Time, and New Star Wars Fireworks Start Date

Disney announced numerous dates and offered details on many of this summer’s new offerings.

At Animal Kingdom, Tiffins/Nomad Lounge and most of the nighttime entertainment will open/begin on May 27th, but the first Jungle Book: Alive with Magic show is scheduled the following night on the 28th.

Dining Packages are available at Tiffins and Tusker House. Tiffins includes one appetizer, entree, dessert, and non-alcoholic beverage for $67/adults and $32 kids ages 3-9. At Tusker House, the dining package for breakfast is $37/adult and $23/kids ages 3-9. Lunch and dinner are both $49/adult and $30 kids. That’s an upcharge of $7/adult and $5/child versus regular prices. Both include a reserved seat in wherever the reserved section is located. Reservations open on Saturday May 21st. 6am online and 7am by phone. FastPass+ should be available beginning at 7am on May 21st as well. I would not expect any discounts to be offered on the Dining Packages, including Tables in Wonderland.

Disney Parks Blog has more details and the Tiffins/Nomad Lounge menu here: https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2016/05/a-look-at-the-menu-for-tiffins-restaurant-nomad-lounge-opening-may-27-at-disneys-animal-kingdom/. Nomad Lounge is expected to offer additional items. More info on other nighttime enhancements, including some new Jungle Book art, here: https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2016/05/first-ever-night-experiences-at-disneys-animal-kingdom-begin-may-27/.

Pangani Forest Exploration Trail will change its name to Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail on May 27th.

At Epcot, the original Soarin’ film will return starting May 27th and continue until June 16th. FastPass+ will be available starting May 21st. More details here: https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2016/05/last-chance-to-experience-the-classic-soarin-at-epcot-and-disney-california-adventure-before-soarin-around-the-world-debuts-on-june-17/.

Frozen Ever After and the Royal Sommerhus Meet and Greet will officially open Tuesday June 21st. Norway will open with Future World at 9am with the hope that they will let people into Norway earlier than that. FastPass+ will be available beginning May 21st, which is one day too early for those booking 30 days out. It does not sound like the Meet and Greet will offer FastPass+. None of the new characters do, including Olaf and Joy/Sadness. More details here: https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2016/05/last-chance-to-experience-the-classic-soarin-at-epcot-and-disney-california-adventure-before-soarin-around-the-world-debuts-on-june-17/.

The new Star Wars fireworks show with projections on the Great Movie Ride’s facade will begin June 17th. More details here: https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2016/05/new-star-wars-a-galactic-spectacular-fireworks-set-to-make-history-at-disneys-hollywood-studios-starting-june-17/.

Disney also confirmed that the new stage show in front of Cinderella Castle, Mickey’s Friendship Faire, will debut June 17th. More details: https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2016/05/mickeys-royal-friendship-faire-begins-june-17-at-magic-kingdom-park/.

Chronologically, this is what we’re looking at:

Saturday May 21 at 7am: FastPass+ for the original Soarin’ show (from May 27th to June 16th) and Frozen Ever After (for dates beginning June 21st) open.

Putting Gorilla back in the name easily answers the most common question about the trail. “What are we going to see here?”

          • ElleJ says

Because the big picture of the gorilla at the trail head is rather confusing. Now it will shift to people thinking that’s the only thing they see there. (Can you tell I’m not a fan of the name change.)

A bit surprised the Anna & Elsa M&G will not offer FP+, guess I shouldn’t have since it seems like for whatever reason that is the new norm. Guess Fairytale Hall at MK will be next to be standby only.. WHY DISNEY

    • josh says

Meet and greets are super low capacity. You could be 30th in line in standby at Fairytale Hall and still wait 30-45 minutes.

      • Rod Handler says

Well, maybe they should build a roller coaster and then have Anna and Elsa stand next to the track waving and a picture is taken at that moment (like Splash Mountain), then they could get hundreds of people through in an hour.

Alright, super confused. Disney’s spiel says that breakfast at Tusker House is part of the reserved seating for the nighttime show, but also says that you have to dine at least 2 1/2 hours before the show. Am I reading this wrong, or are they contradicting themselves?

    • josh says

Rivers of Light/Jungle Book are nighttime shows so all breakfasts would be at least 2.5 hours before the show. You can’t schedule dinner at 7pm and see the 8:30pm show because then your dinner is only 1.5 hours before the show and it has to be at least 2.5

  3. Gingerellies says

Any idea how far out you’ll be able to book the dinner package for the night time show at AK? We are planning a November trip this year and would want to change our Tusker house breakfast to Tusker house breakfast lightshow package.

    • josh says

Disney has only extended hours at AK through July 2nd through the first week in September. Don’t think they would offer dining packages in November considering they don’t even know/won’t admit which show will be performing.

  4. Anne Marie says

Thanks for the update. I guess both Frozen & Soarin will both be tier one so we will have to choose between the two. :(

  5. Jojo says

Any indication of at will be teir 1 and 2 attractions at EP once Soarin and Frozen are both available?

  6. Bobby says

I guess will find out if the menu at Skipper Canteen was the problem because Tiffins looks pretty similar.

Also, love this comment on the blog:

“Will there be a menu that is child-friendly, similar in the vein of Sanaa? My son (age 11) WILL NOT eat any of this. He would venture out of his comfort zone but this is a huge stretch.”

    • Heather says

Sanaa & Skipper Canteen were our favorite TS in April. The food and atmosphere at both were fantastic; my 13yr old son loved them. While we enjoyed BOG, these definitely surpassed.

We ate at 7 TS, and each came with pounds of string beans, lol. WDW must be into cloning string beans these days.

    • josh says

There may be some overlap between them meeting in both places but they are expected to be exclusive to Epcot as far as being able to meet them shortly after the Frozen ride opens.

  7. Gygbfj says

It looks like Disney extended the AK hours to 11pm though Labor Day according to the WDW website.

  8. Jeff says

Will any of the AK dining packages be part of the dining plan the way some of the Fantasmic! dinner packages are?

  9. JayStemple says

Thank goodness! The same film we’ve seen since Soarin’ came out at Disneyland in 2001 will be shown…. AGAIN! #Sarcasm.

  10. DV says

I honestly cannot believe my luck. My family’s last day is June 17th. It was great to find out a few weeks ago that Soarin’ would open the new film on our last day, (got a fastpass) but now we get the bonus of being able to see the new Star Wars fireworks show on our last night! Also, part of my group is flying out on the 16th and they will get to see the classic Soarin’ film now. Best. Friday. Ever.

  11. Terri says

I saw another site that there is also a Dining Package for Jungle Book at Flame Tree BBQ. Is that correct? I don’t see any other site with that same info.

  12. annie415 says

Do we know if Star Wars firework will last through November? I kniw it might be early to tell.

  13. Bethany says

Thank you so much for the update! I changed our Tusker House breakfast to the dining package to see the show. I appreciate your hard work and wealth of information.

  14. Sue says

Do you know what times new Starwars fireworks will be? I tried looking on MDE but think it’s crashed! Lol

  15. Amber says

Are the new Star Wars fireworks on select nights only after 6/17 or every night? I thought I read on your blog select nights only, but an article on the Disney Parks Blog says nightly after 6/17, but of course their park hours do not match that online.
    Any insight? Thanks!

    • Heather says

I’m wondering about this too. They’ve invested in updating the already great SW fireworks show, it would make sense to schedule it nightly. We loved these & hope they’re a go for Sun Sept 4th.

  1. […] There were a bunch of new announcements today, including that from May 27 through June 17, you’ll be able to see classic Soarin’ at Epcot and that Frozen Ever After will open June 21 (comments on the post seem to indicate that Anna & Elsa will be stand-by only ?!?!?). Though I would love to write things up in more detail, Elyssa and I are currently at Disney World, so I’ll point you to this post over at easyWDW with a summary of all the new stuff taking place this summer at Disney World.
