Animal Kingdom’s operating hours have been extended to 9am – 8pm from 9am – 7pm for many dates in June and July. These changes have been made to the respective crowd calendars, but it doesn’t change the recommended days because the hours are so consistent. The extended hours may be due to the lack of evening Extra Magic Hours at Animal Kingdom for the foreseeable future. You’ll often see me refer to the two best times to tour the Animal Kingdom as the first and last 90 minutes of the day. That becomes especially true when Animal Kingdom is open later in the evening. Many people who arrive early in the morning will complete their itinerary early in the afternoon and either leave before the 3:45pm Parade or soon after. It’s usually a good time to return to Kilimanjaro Safaris, Expedition Everest, Dinosaur, Primeval Whirl, and other moderately popular attractions after 6:30pm. Keep in mind that Kilimanjaro Safaris may close before the rest of the Park. Be sure to check your times guide if you’re thinking about returning to Kilimanjaro Safaris around closing time. It also makes the morning hours even better because more people will sleep in and arrive later in the day. As always, the first 90 minutes is always the best time to tour because crowds will at their absolute lowest and FASTPASSes will be plentiful.
The Overall Crowd Calendar with an overview of the crowds, cost, weather, refurbishments, operating hours, cost, special events etc. for each month has been updated. I had been neglecting it while I focused on other things, but I’ve put it back up near the top of my priorities list.
Final testing of the Magic Kingdom touring plans is just about complete. Way behind schedule, but this is the “biggie” so it’s important to get it right. We’ll be watching the new Mickey Mouse Meet and Greet Area at the Town Square Theater over the next couple of weeks to make sure it’s worked in properly for those who want to experience it. The Magic Kingdom touring plans will also come with a neat custom made map that will be exclusive to the site. Work is currently underway on custom maps for the other Parks too.
The Epcot touring overview, touring plans with kids, and family hybrid plans are also just about ready for mass consumption.
Work is progressing well on the redesign of the site. We’ll soon be rid of the never-ending categories to the right. Hopefully we’re about six weeks away from that unveiling.
