TriceraTop Spin Review at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
TriceraTop Spin Opened On: November 1, 2001.
See this page for all of the Disney’s Animal Kingdom attraction reviews.
Location: Whether you want to or not, you’ll find TriceraTop Spin in Chester and Hester’s Dino-Rama. That’s in DinoLand USA across from Primeval Whirl.
Extra Magic Hours: Morning.
Ride Length: 90 glorious seconds.
FastPass+: No.
Before 10am, you can typically ride with just a couple of other people on-board, at most. Here I am riding myself. If there aren’t a lot of people waiting, you can even ride a second time without having to disembark!
Type: Carousel.
Similar To: Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Magic Carpets of Aladdin
Requirements: None.
Scary Factor: Minimal. Although the ride does move up, down, and side to side, it’s geared towards young children. It shouldn’t frighten anyone. At the end of the ride, the vehicles do all go up to the top height for a few seconds. With very apprehensive kids, watch a rotation first.
What to Expect: Visitors enter dinosaur vehicles with two rows that fit two to three people. Each row has a joystick that can slightly alter the way the vehicle moves – either up and down or back and forth. The ride vehicles slowly move around the base of the ride in a circle just like Dumbo at Magic Kingdom.
Expect to Wait:
When To Go: You’ll find the shortest waits before 11am or after 4pm, but it’s rare that the wait is longer than ten minutes.
Rating: 2/10 for adults and 9/10 for very young children.
Commentary: TriceraTop Spin is almost identical to Dumbo, except the ride is dinosaur-themed, each vehicle holds about four people, and there are two sets of controls in the vehicle. Groups of teens and adults won’t be missing much if they skip the Spin, but this will be at the top of many younger visitors’ lists.
Unlike Dumbo or The Magic Carpets of Aladdin, there isn’t a whole lot to see once you’re up in the air. But the wait is mercifully short in the afternoon and it’s not a bad expenditure of five minutes if you’re in DinoLand before 11am.
The kids may appreciate riding a few times while the adults and teens are enjoying Primeval Whirl or DINOSAUR nearby.
We visited in September 2016. I found many of the “dinos” on this ride to be in a state of disrepair. Similar to what you find at run down carnivals. It was in such bad shape that I wonder if the ride will be replaced soon.
BEST LINE EVER: Whether you want to or not, you’ll find TriceraTop Spin in Chester and Hester’s Dino-Rama.
(Not same John who has the first post! Though I am sure he must be a lovely person, too.)
Honestly, they do play pretty good music while you’re flying around.
