Mahindi Popcorn Review at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Mahindi is located in Africa.
See this page for all of the Disney’s Animal Kingdom quick service reviews.
Location: For years, you would have called this Harambe or Safari Popcorn. A few years ago, Disney renamed all of their kiosks. This one is named Mahindi, which means “Corn” in Swahili. Since the kiosk primarily serves popcorn, it checks out. You’ll find Mahindi across from Tamu Tamu Refreshments in Africa. That’s right across the bridge into Africa from Discovery Island on the right.
You can pull up the current menu at DisneyWorld.com here. We’ve seen just about everything offered on the menu elsewhere, with the exception of this $13.69 Disney’s Animal Kingdom Canteen. The Popcorn and Cannamon-glazed Pecans and Almonds are in line with what you’d receive elsewhere.
The souvenir canteen has taken on a couple of different looks over the years. On the right, we have The Lion King version wrapped up in a brown holder.
Specifically, here’s what the canteen from the menu looks like. I like the canteens more than your typical tumbler-style souvenir cups that you’ll see at a lot of outlets.
Mahindi is typically one of the first of the various kiosks to receive new popcorn buckets. They offer both the Simba and Conga Drum Popcorn Buckets.
This past Christmas, Mahindi offered the refillable popcorn bucket and Pluto Holiday Popcorn Bucket before any other venue. Depending on your propensity to carry a popcorn bucket around, investing in a refillable one may be a worthy investment. The bucket costs about $11, but the refills are $2 with tax, which is about a third of the price of a regular carton. You’ll see a lot of plastic buckets attached to strollers.
Overall, the Mahindi kiosk probably isn’t something a lot of people seek out. If popcorn is what you’re after, or you’re having trouble finding souvenir items, then you might check it out. The Glazed Nuts are also very good. When the line is short, it’s a good stop for a quick complimentary cup of water too.
