See this page for all of the Disney’s Animal Kingdom attraction reviews.
Winged Encounters: The Kingdom Takes Flight is the name of a short 10-minute show that Disney schedules throughout the day at the base of the Tree of Life. The red circle marks the spot.
Disney refers to the show as a “pandemonium of parrots.”
According to Disney:
Watch in wonder as the winged stars of the show take off near the Tree of Life. Like a living kaleidoscope, the brilliantly colored birds swoop and soar over Discovery Island. Keep your peepers peeled for appearances by 6 species of South American macaw: hyacinth, green-winged, blue and gold, scarlet, blue-throated and military. The largest have an incredible wingspan of around 48 inches. Gather around as our resident bird care experts unlock the secrets of these fascinating creatures—and even answer questions from the audience. It’s the ultimate bird-watching experience!
Disney goes back and forth on whether they publish the exact showtimes.
Officially, it’s supposed to be a “spontaneous gathering.”
On the Times Guide, you may see the show listed as “intermittently between 9am and 4pm.” Most recently, Disney scheduled the shows at 9:30am, 10:30am, 11:30am, 1:30pm, 2:30pm, and 3:30pm.
If you’re in the area and have interest, ask a cast members to check their Tell-A-Cast for the exact times.
The show, which lasts less than ten minutes, ended up being popular enough that Disney built this permanent perch for the birds.

You can watch the macaws fly by overhead in slow motion in this Twitter video. Turn the sound off or down or it will sound awfully strange as the birds pass by. Be ready for the birds’ release. Once they get going, they only appear for about 30 seconds before they fly backstage.
Overall, Winged Encounters probably isn’t a quintessential part of your visit to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, but it’s a lot of fun to happen upon one of the six shows scheduled throughout the day. If you want to make a point of it, ask a cast member for the exact times. It’s also a good idea to be in the area during the quoted times above. Disney may also add the exact times to the attraction page at DisneyWorld.com here.
