Edit 2: Okay, we’re good to go.
Edit: One moment, let me add the Wonderful World of Gaming.
I have a bit of bad news. But it’s your fault. Since you weren’t receptive to my idea of taking a look at Sea World, I mean SeaWorld, we are going to Downtown Disney instead. To look at menus. It’s terribly boring. Terribly boring.

I am an expert on the Lynx bus system because it’s what I take to the theme parks myself. Well, I don’t know about “expert.” That might just be my ego talking. I get a lot of people rolling their eyes when I tell them that I am a “bus person,” but it really isn’t so bad. They generally run on time. The buses don’t run in a circle so everyone has to get off the bus at the end of the route. That cuts down on “vagrancy.” I can just sit there and pleasantly read my book or stare at my phone. It’s not as convenient as a car, but it’s cheaper and has some other advantages.
The picture above is the Downtown Disney West Side Transfer Center Lynx bus stop, which is all the way over near the West Side parking lot. From here, you would just walk straight ahead along the path, take a right, and you’re at House of Blues and Cirque du Soleil. The main Lynx bus stop on Disney property is at the Ticket/Transportation Center. From there, you can go all the way up and down US-192 on Route 56 or up into Orlando on the 50 or 111. The 56 would take you to the Medieval Times, Wal-Mart, Publix, Sam’s Club, etc. It’s a relatively direct trip up the highway. Buses run every 30 minutes in both directions and the bus stops only add a few minutes to the trip. The 111 ends at Orlando International Airport. The 50 or 111 would take you within a five minute walk of SeaWorld, which we will never ever take a look at. Actually, we are going to SeaWorld in the next couple of days. And I’m not going to put in a “continue reading” button so you’re really, really, really going to have to scroll down. And I’m going to put the best Disney information ever right after it.

See? It just pulls right up. And they’re pink! How cute is that!

I thought this picture was pretty. I don’t get lucky like this very often. I picked up a Tokina 11-16mm lens yesterday so maybe the pictures will improve if I ever learn how to use the camera. This is the walkway from the parking lot or said bus stop to House of Blues etc.
Cookes of Dublin is my favorite Walt Disney World quick service. If Disney were to agree to put a version of it in Hollywood Studios, I would do whatever they asked. Shill for Disney Vacation Club nonstop. Shut this website down. Sell Magic Your Way tickets door to door in Wyoming. And before you say, “That’s ridiculous!” please eat a few meals at ABC Commissary. You’ll see what I mean. Cookes of Dublin is the quick service arm of the similarly awesome Raglan Road. It’s located right next door to Raglan in Pleasure Island. Here’s the menu:

Every time I go in I mean to order the Scallops. Every single time. But I have ordered them in the past and as your Disney World blogger, I feel it is my duty to try something “new.”

So we have the Fisherman’s Pie with the paper underneath it very in focus.

A little better. I’ve never had better quick service fries anywhere – Walt Disney World or otherwise. Served hot. Crispy. Plump. Salty. And they serve them with your choice of several sauces, including a “Dalkey Mustard” that is divine.

And a half-eaten picture for your viewing pleasure. This is a full service blog after all. It’s more food than it probably looks like. Very rich, filled with mashed potatoes, shrimp, scallops, and probably a few other things. The crust ever so flaky. Served fresh – piping hot. Delivered to your table. Self-serve soda machines. LOVE IT.

Back over to House of Blues. Some band was playing at 5:30pm and there was already a line of teenagers in line outside at 1:30pm. Dress in black and be an individual.

Prices have gone up on Happy Hour drinks, but it’s still some of the cheapest alcohol on Disney property. Appetizers are also half off from 3pm to 5pm. I miss the days of half price appetizers after 10pm.
Back in October, the sign looked like this:

So budget another $2.50 on the ten cosmopolitans you’re planning to order.
House of Blues has a new menu as of December 2011. Here it is typed up at AllEars: http://allears.net/menu/menu_hob.htm.
Or (barely readable) pictures. They’re on the Disney Dining Plan in 2012 for the first time:

I haven’t been yet in 2012.

And the outside bar with live music at 4pm.
Specialty drinks:

Some Swamp Water please.

The Gospel Brunch has always intrigued me, but I have never been. Let me know if you want to go. To the 1pm one obviously.

Splitsville construction continues in the old Virgin Megastore building on the West Side.

This is the current advertisement.

But I have done a little bit of market research and this would be a better advertisement. The correct order should be drink, drink, drink, bowl, drink, drink, drink, drink. Nobody wants to see Walt Disney World visitors dancing.
Over to the West Side Wolfgang Puck Express. If you’re unfamiliar, there are actually two Wolfgang Puck quick services in Downtown Disney. The Marketplace version (the other one) is far superior in both food and service. Here’s the menu:

If something sounds good, you’re in the area, and you’re in the mood to sit outside, then you’re in business. Otherwise, the Marketplace location is a better choice.
And Wolfgang Puck Cafe Lunch menu – The first floor table service restaurant.

For Kids:

Some inexpensive…and more expensive options.
Bongos Cuban Cafe is part of the 2012 Disney Dining Plan too. The menu is ummmmm…for lack of a better word….extensive:

Not sure how you would narrow that down.
They also have a sandwich window attached:

Inexpensive, but I’ve never eaten there! There is rarely an open table.

Taking a step back from the menus for a moment. One of those South American tour groups was marching through Downtown Disney. They start at Cirque du Soleil, go all the way along Disney Quest and Splitsville, and end at the AMC Movie Theater. Visas are really hard to get though.

Not much new going on along here. We’ve got Hoypoloi, Sosa Cigars, and the relatively new Something Silver stores in front of us. Followed by the massive AMC Theater.

And in the opposite direction. That’s “sunglass icon by sunglass hut.” This is easyWDW by easyWDW.

Looks friendly? It’s basically Main Street Confectionery at Downtown Disney. With a lot less space to move around.

“BLINK” by wet seal. A good place to go if you have a sudden urge to buy pants. And I mean really. Who knows when that is going to strike? That’s D Street and then Harley Davidson on the end.

Popping into D Street. Vinylmation is as weird as ever.

I mean they are cute.

But not $45 a pop cute in this person’s opinion. This particular one is limited to 1500 but they still don’t sell.

And others are just what the heck.

And others are one of a kind. That’s $1,200 by the way.

Some neat Star Wars merch. This one comes in a couple different colors. In pink for the ladies too.

Marvel makes an appearance.
More new Mickey shirts:

If you’re looking for something a teenage boy (or older) (or younger) (or a girl) might be interested in, D Street is one of the best choices.

Over to Heaven on Earth…Wetzel’s Pretzels and Haagen Dazs within inches of each other!
Wetzel’s:

Haagen Dazs:

I almost feel like I’m being mean by posting that. Go ahead and open up the freezer and grab a treat. You deserve it!

You’ll find a variety of these sorts of stands throughout Downtown Disney. They rarely have a line, which makes a quick beverage purchase easy. And there’s no bag check at Downtown Disney so it’s easier to sneak in that 100 ounce flask.
Menu:

It’s cost effective to bring your own Frangelico. And I would die laughing if I ever heard someone say, “Hunny, do you have the Frangelico?”

Over to the AMC Dine-In Theater.
The menu:

Finally a movie theater where we won’t get kicked out because every square inch in a 30 foot radius smells like malt liquor and whiskey. I can see how a waffle sundae and a movie would be a nice way to end a romantic evening as well. I don’t imagine I’ll ever find myself on said date, but it sure sounds nice. Considering a package of Skittles runs you $4.25, $10 Prime Rib Tacos don’t sound so bad. I’m always the guy that buys the large popcorn, eats one and a half tubs to “get my money’s worth” and then feels sick and regrets it for the next ten days. Thai Coconut Chicken Tenders sound less regrettable. Though I’m not sure sitting next to the doofus constantly rustling his way through his package of Dibs is any better than some bro grinding his teeth against his fork through a Country Fried Steak. At least they took the chili off the menu.

Planet Hollywood looks a lot more fun from the outside than it probably is on the inside. The menu outside doesn’t have prices, but here it is anyway: http://www.easywdw.com/reports2/bankrupt_twice_menu.jpg.

Looking up at the helium balloon on a string known as Characters in Flight. It’s good marketing because there are no characters and it isn’t a hot air balloon like many people assume.

In the daytime there aren’t usually a lot of people up there. It makes it easier to move around or a larger buffer if you pass out.

$18 per person for about five minutes in the air – ten minutes total. It’s certainly a unique experience, but a family of four can expect to pay around $64.

This lists the wind speed and how many people can safely ride during various gusts. I’m assuming the insinuation isn’t that it crashes and no one survives at wind speeds over 22 miles per hour?

You’ll see a couple of these Italian Ice stands around Downtown Disney.
Your choices:

The Gelati Boat? The prices are a little crazy because they “come out even” when you multiply by the tax rate, 6.5%.

My favorite Downtown Disney bathrooms. Plenty of stalls and rarely crowded with little going on around here. If you know of a better set, do tell!

Laffer’s Cantina.

It doesn’t make a lot of sense without Comedy Warehouse around, but they do serve alcohol so who’s gonna hate?

Nobody knows your name at the Adventurers Hut.
Menu:

These sorts of places in Pleasure Island may or may not be open in the evening. They shouldn’t be open during the day unless there’s a very special event.

A look back at the Pleasure Island seating area. There is live entertainment in the evenings. Usually just a guitar player and somebody dressed up in a shiny outfit that just stands there in place not moving.
The Paradiso 37 menu without pricing. It’s another fun evening area with the outdoor bar, plenty of beer, and more tequila. Appetizers are mostly great. Entrees…not so much in my experience:

Not usually very busy. A nice late night spot, particularly when the bugs aren’t out and it’s 75 at night. The weather has been beautiful here lately. Highs in the upper 70s and lows in the low 60s. Prime outdoor scotch weather.

The PI Live looking pretty sad this time of day.

The menu should look familiar.

The Marketplace bus stops are closed through the end of the month, opening back up on February 1st. The Pleasure Island stop near Planet Hollywood is the only one currently available.
The current Raglan Road lunch menu: http://www.easywdw.com/reports2/ragland.jpg.
We’ll return for the rest of the menus later. That’s all of the West Side and most of Pleasure Island.
Whoops, forgot the Wonderful World:

I hate it when I don’t know something exists. It makes me question my life as an amateur Walt Disney World blogger. What am I doing here? Can they trust me? Can someone input the knowledge into my brain for me?

This is it inside of the Once Upon A Toy Store, the massive toy store near the end or beginning of the Marketplace depending on where you’re coming from. It’s across the street from Earl of Sandwich further away from Pleasure Island and the West Side.

They have a variety of Nintendo DS titles to play.

And Nintendo Wii titles. Supposedly Epic Mickey 2 is on the horizon for sometime in 2012 and will be coming to PS3 and Xbox 360. That would be SWEET!

It’s a great opportunity to “accidentally” whack your brother.

Bring your own.

Some other sorts of games and accessories.

This (The 4-Disc version) is actually $42.99 right now on Amazon, so this isn’t a terrible price. I’m sort of (very) surprised by that.

$15.99 at Amazon for either Toy Story 3 or Midway Mania on the Wii at the moment.

If it’s a Disney game, they probably have it. I wish they would remake DuckTales: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DuckTales_%28video_game%29. Sadly, Launchpad McQuack could only be used one time per level!

It’s a fun area.

Books? We don’t need no stinkin’ books!
Until next time.

I guess no one is commenting because it’s such awesome reporting …. that or they are afraid if they say something negative Seaworld will be on the agenda for tomorrow!
I do have to say though that HOB 1/2 off appetizers is one of the best bargains in disney food wise.
I loved the DuckTales game, I had forgotten about that one.
$1200 for Paint Splatter Mickey…hilarious.
I loved that DuckTales game. I still remember the Himalayan level.
HOB Green Gator, please. Yum.
“’BLINK’ by wet seal. A good place to go if you have a sudden urge to buy pants. And I mean really. Who knows when that is going to strike?” ….. OMG I about fell out of my chair laughing!!! Thanks for making my day!
You know Josh I was thinking of you today (before I read the blog), and how eating all this Disney food really was a great service to mankind. I could handle visiting the parks a few times each week, or more, but I think the constant Disney diet would kill me. Although I suspect you are probably doing just about enough walking to balance out the damage to your arteries…at least from the food.
And by the way, Downtown Disney looks much improved from your last walkabout- well the one before the art show anyway.
Josh is my DuckTales Game Soulmate.
If you tell me that Super Mario 2 is your favorite … I will REALLY swoon. LOL
Both meals I’ve had at ABC Commissary have ended with me waking up in the middle of the night and throwing up…true story.
I must have been dumb or something because the DuckTales game was SO HARD. I kept trying and trying to figure it out, because it was cool, but never could get very far.
It might have helped if my stepsister had kept the instruction guide, I guess? and also if i weren’t trying to play it secretly at night without her knowing.
Also, I am curious about what SeaWorld is like these days. But not enough to actually visit.
I had no idea that Cookes had Curry Dip! Yum!!
Great report as always, and I would love to see a Seaworld blog
We went in Oct and loved it.
I’m just gana through my opinion out there… I am pro Josh reporting on SeaWorld! There i said it. There is no shame in my game. In my opinion, there is little out there about SeaWorld and I would like to know more. Keep up the great work Josh!
Josh don’t let any of us dissuade you from covering SeaWorld .
It’s cost effective to bring your own Frangelico. And I would die laughing if I ever heard someone say, “Hunny, do you have the Frangelico?”
How about, “hunny do you want Bailey’s or Armaretto?” – Overheard this past December in Biergarten. This older couple ordered coffee with their dessert and the wife pulls out a ziploc bag with an airline bottles of booze! I just thought, I wanna be like her when I’m old. Forgot the vodka in the water bottle, just straight up bring the booze bottles in.
I would love to read you on SeaWorld! or on anything…I find you are very entertaining and funny!
si is it just me… or am I the only one stuck on “Actually I’m going to SeaWorld…”
I don’t care what everyone is saying Josh I can’t wait for the review(s)!!!
Now I really want to eat at Cookes of Dublin.
Great, funny report as usual. After looking at all those food listings I’m about to go get the Wendy’s chocolate junior Frostee (yeah, very small but it was free to me today – thanks to the kiddo for getting on the Honor Roll and getting the freebie from school. She got one too, no worries) out of the freezer. I refreeze it and eat it like ice cream.
Anyway, I highly recommend you maybe put a clickable link on the right margin to an article you could post (“for keeps”) about the Lynx bus system and in particular the stuff you wrote today about how to get to the various Disney places and which ways the buses go, etc. That would be very helpful for people who stay off site but can’t afford a rental car or whatever. And for people who maybe get bitten big time by the Disney Orlando bug and decide to move there (like I still hope to do some day)….and maybe we have to sell our car to get there; then the bus would come in handy, hehe. And I would STILL like to read anything you’d care to write about SeaWorld…if only just to see for myself how it’s different at all from San Diego’s version.
Josh, what do you read on the bus? You make me smile and laugh all the time … I’m betting whatever you read for pleasure is a good bet.
Also … I would LOVE to do the Gospel Brunch with you. Can we make a date for September 9?? (Don’t get any ideas or it might get awkward … my husband will be with me!)
AND I think I still have the NES Ducktails game … we rarely hook up the NES, but it really is a killer game.
Okay wait … I want to invite you out in February … wanna have lunch with me and my Disney twin on Monday, Feb. 27, at 1:20ish? (I have an ADR!)
Oh yea. The ADR is for 50s PT.
Not to encourage the carrying of booze in pockets, but I highly recommend getting the Belgian chocolate shake from Haagen Daz, drinking a third of it, and refilling that empty third with Baileys. Or, go right to it and dump out a third before refilling with Baileys instead of wasting that valuable tummy space on shake only. That’s our favorite Downtown Disney treat!
Josh, My baby Yeti from AK and me would be more than happy to read your SeaWorld report. If noone else is interested you can send it to us via e-mail
Katie – Looks like you have quite the quick trigger finger.
Tabitha – Never forget.
Patty – Credit card.
Tanya – Get two.
Andrea – I can’t think of a worse feeling than when I want to buy pants and there aren’t any pants stores nearby. Then I get to the pants store and I don’t want them anymore. It’s a vicious cycle.
Stephanie – If I die at 31 of diabetes I’m thinking lawsuit.
Hilary – I prefer 3. I have a soft spot for Raccoon and Frog Mario.
Misty – You shouldn’t smuggle in so much alcohol next time.
keri – I don’t think I got very far either. I just liked Launchpad taking my ducks home.
DizDragonfly – I’ll FedEx you some.
Ali – Me too.
E.Rend – Thanks and look out for hardSEAWORLD.com soon.
Peaches – Should I let you persuade me into covering SeaWorld?
Monia – My kind of people.
annie415 – Be careful what you wish for.
Erica – That’s a good title for a post! *Stolen*
Natalie – Don’t let me stop you.
RebeccaMcK – You deserve it!
melissa sue – What are you doing Feb. 26th?
Andrea – Consider it encourage.
Timea – Do you ever get overruled by that yeti?
Not getting to Orlando until around 4 pm.
OMG! Lots of Menus or a trip to SeaWorld….hmmmm “May I have SeaWorld for $2000 Alex!”
Has anyone played that Toy Story Mania game for Wii? What’s it like? We got one of the TSM game units (not sure that’s the best term) from Woot a few months ago for like $15 and gave it to DS4 for Christmas. It’s OK, but nothing spectacular. Actually trying to keep the aiming reticle on the target is quite difficult for the kids. Just curious how user-friendly the Wii or other game console versions are.
This is such a coincidence! I was popping on to see exactly what you wrote about the Lynx #111 in my thread.
I had a cab driver pretend to not know where the West Side was and so I had to explain to him that there is the Marketplace on the right, Pleasure Island in the middle, and West Side on the far left. I told him that I was told the Lynx buses were in the far west part of West Side. He drove around saying “I don’t think I’ve ever seen them.” I said that I would get out here and he kept stalling and said “We can ask that security person” who he didn’t catch up to. He then slowly drove over to another cabbie, moseyed over and asked him. I think they must have been talking sports because he took so long. Then he moseyed back and said that the other cabbie didn’t know.
I was going to be late for the airport at this point and said that I would just get out and what do I owe him. He said for just another $20 over what I owed him, he would take me to the airport. Looking at the time, I took him up on it.
Funny that this would have been the first thing I saw on the blog just after getting home. The ride to Downtown Disney on the 111 was easy. I had no trouble finding it and it only took about 40 minutes. It was very clean, safe, and hardly anyone was on it. Now I know some of the different locations I can catch it for future reference and next time I go to Downtown Disney, I’ll see where the buses are on the West Side. I’m just certain it will be very obvious. I’m sure he was steering us as far away from them as possible just so he could take me to the airport!
I completely forgot about Duck Tales! I loved that game! The Himalayean level was one of my faves. I was the master at that game…good times.
I guess its a good thing my kiddos like mac n cheese, chicken nuggets and pizza! Looks like that’s all they’ll be eating next week…..
cant wait for SW info
Josh,
I am very good at dissuasion but truly excel at persuasion, I got skills.
“Peaches – Should I let you persuade me into covering SeaWorld?”
So hoping for a SeaWord report! Bummed there wasn’t a visit to DisneyQuest.
@stevenmilz
We have the TSM game for Wii, and it’s fun. I can’t claim that it’s exactly like the ride, because I’ve only been on the ride once and don’t remember everything about it. But I’ve heard that kids and adults who play the video game improve their skills for when they ride the TSM ride (score higher). I’m not much of a video game person but I liked the Wii TSM game. Got it for $20 at Target late last year. My DD6 hasn’t played it yet but she likes to cheer Hubby and me on when we play the games. One thing it has you do at some points during the various games is turn your wrist around quickly (“winding up” the game controller) or shake it side to side to gain “bonus points” and that’s fun but exhausting. I’ve never tried other game systems so I don’t know if they’re similar or if Wii is in a world of their own.
———
Josh, your mentions of Duck Tales and Chip’n'Dale’s Rescue Rangers bring back memories. I never watched the shows much but my sister (3-1/2 years younger) always watched them as soon as she got home from school each day. Sang the theme songs and everything. I wish they’d bring those shows back, along with House of Mouse. They need to show more of the older Disney cartoons on TV, too, so the kids of today know about the characters. Not just Mickey Mouse Clubhouse/Pixar’y stuff.
Josh – As he is still a baby sometimes I take my chances however if I’d like to be honest He is the Boss
Love the wide angle pic…nice shot! I guess amateur blogging pays pretty well for you to get that lens.
I agree that you should add a link on the right side with your encyclopedic knowledge of LYNX – especially since the people that work their customer service phones are less than enlightened about the routes!
“But I have done a little bit of market research and this would be a better advertisement. The correct order should be drink, drink, drink, bowl, drink, drink, drink, drink. Nobody wants to see Walt Disney World visitors dancing.”
That also would have my answer had I been asked that particular Disney survey question.
Also, I wonder how many lives were lost to determine that 22 mph winds result in no survivors on the Characters in Flight balloon. That is absolutely what that diagram looks like it is implying. I can’t help laughing as you follow the progression of pictures and end with “0 passengers”.
Josh….Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please DO SEAWOLD….for the sake of humanity, the world, the universe
ok, what a bunch of wuss’ we are!!…bring it on …Seaworld or bust!..we’re all very happy to read anything you write !!!
does House Of Blues allow children? or is it considered an adult only atmosphere at night?
AND what the heck is a Frangelico…I dont want to leave mine at home!!!
Thanks for the update Josh. At first I didn’t think I was going to find any new info for my Snack Thread but lo and behold I did! Forty Thirst Street didn’t used to take DDP and I never heard of the Adventurers hut. So thank you.
I agree about Cooke’s. The food is very good there and when the other CS are packed, it isn’t. Their onion rings are really good and a SC as well!
Can’t wait to see if I find anymore hidden DDP logos on your Part 2.
I think your fingers must have cramped after this update. shew. Good times.
I am all for a Sea World or SeaWorld review, heck you can even do Busch Gardens or Universal, love your take on things.
melissa sue – We’ll figure something out.
Anonymous – I’ll see what I can do.
stevenmilz – It’s not particularly well reviewed – http://www.gamerankings.com/wii/959016-disneypixar-toy-story-mania/index.html
Jane – Sorry I didn’t get this posted in time to be helpful! That’s about the time you take down the cabbie’s name and number and contact Mears about it.
Jill – A true classic. It’s a shame Nintendo hasn’t made it available for download on the Wii’s virtual console.
Allison – Yes, that’s clutch. There are a few interesting options here and there –
Animal Kingdom
Flame Tree Barbecue – Baked Chicken Drumstick
Epcot
Katsura Grill – Teriyaki Chicken.
La Cantina de San Angel – Cheese Empanada
Lotus Blossom Café – Sweet and Sour Chicken
Sunshine Seasons – Each of the stations offers a smaller portion of adult fare for kids – make your own sub, sweet and sour chicken, chicken leg with mashed potatoes are all available
Hollywood Studios
Toy Story Pizza Planet – Mini Meatball Sub
Magic Kingdom
Columbia Harbour House – Tuna Sandwich
Pinocchio Village Haus – Pasta and Meatballs or Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Tortuga Tavern – Quesadillas
Rebecca – Try to. It will be soon.
Peaches – I’m almost convinced.
RebeccaMcK – A Blu-ray release would be pretty epic.
Timea – Good plan – he’s going to grow.
Mike – Credit cards.
Pfalcioni – Riding the bus is embarrassing enough. I’m not sure I want to advertise it every day.
Jana – I’m glad we weren’t the test subjects for that one. I’ll stick to Test Track.
berwick – Okay.
Dawn – Frangelico – http://www.bevmo.com/Shop/ProductDetail.aspx?utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=froogle&ProductID=429 As far as I know, the restaurant does not have any age restrictions.
Terri in So Cal – There’s always more. Always.
haven_alise1997 – I have Busch Gardens and Universal tickets too ^_^
Josh, if taking the 56 from TTC, is Publix closer to Disney than the Medieval Times Walmart?
Am i glad my boys did NOT see that last store while we were there last month! We would’ve been in there FOREVER!
Once again, thanks for all you do, Josh!
