You may recall my latest venture to Magic Kingdom a couple of days ago to check out the new menus at Columbia Harbour House and Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe. As I was (creepily) photographing the various menus, a new menu item caught my eye – The 1/3 Pound Angus Pizza Burger.

My mind fluttered with the possibilities. There was no explanation. No picture. What would it be? A pizza with a hamburger on top? A hamburger with a pizza on top? Was there a philosophical difference? Maybe a toasted bun, cheese, pepperoni, hamburger patty, and toasted bun? Would it be served on french bread? Would it have the same sauce as other Disney pizzas? Mozzarella cheese?
Amusingly, it actually says more about what it is in Spanish underneath the English. Google translates it to a: “150 gram burger with tomato sauce, provolone cheese, and ham italino.” That sounds promising…
Let me first warn you. You need a strong stomach to view some of these images.

So far so good. This doesn’t look bad at all does it? A pretty good looking bun. A little pizza sauce oozing out the sides. The expected hamburger appears to be there.

Okay, a little less appetizing. This is a very bizarre sauce that is sort of a cross between a pasta sauce and a salsa. It’s got a lot of kick to it that you certainly wouldn’t expect from a traditional pizza. I don’t think this sauce would actually go on a pizza. At least not an edible pizza.

Yuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s just as unappetizing as it looks. It’s got this piece of ham on it for some inexplicable reason. I’ve had a lot of pizzas in my life, including pizza at every restaurant/quick service in Disney World, and no pizza has ever had a slice of ham covering the whole thing like this. Pepperoni would make more sense, but I’m sure the “efficiency experts” deemed a single slice of ham quicker to prepare. I pulled the ham back a little here for your viewing pleasure. There’s a single mushroom mixed in. What you see is what you get. It had an unappetizing looking texture to it. Can’t comment on the taste. I imagine the cheese is the same variety that’s served with the meatball sandwiches at Pinocchio Village Haus, Toy Story Pizza Planet, etc. The spicy sauce completely overpowers any flavor from the cheese, so there’s really no reason for it to be there.
Even on the reviews of food that I deem to be “poor,” I still feel like there are redeeming qualities of one variety or another. They are at least edible. But the Angus Pizza Burger is as disgusting as it is disappointing. I would really be surprised to hear about someone enjoying this. It certainly wouldn’t appeal to the palettes of most children, which I imagine is who’s targeted. On the surface, the item itself makes a lot of sense. Someone must have looked over a list of the best selling entrees and seen that they were pizza and hamburgers. Why not put them together? Unfortunately, this just doesn’t work.
Gelato, If You’re Still Hungry
Gelato is another addition to the menu at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe and Pinocchio Village Haus in Fantasyland.
I feel like there’s something a little more civilized about gelato. You may very well see me outside Cosmic Ray’s, silver spoon and gelato tub in hand, looking down on you as you try to garble down a Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar with the rest of the peasants. Don’t be surprised if our eyes meet for a fleeting moment as you watch Mickey’s face melt and fall to the ground, all the while I’m enjoying my no-sugar-added mango treat.

The Gelato is $3.29 and comes in Chocolate or No Sugar Added Mango. It’s a snack or dessert on the Disney Dining Plan.

It’s served in prepackaged containers that are distributed by Molto Gelato, a local distributor of gelato, ice cream, and other frozen treats. It has a very rich, deep, dark chocolate flavor. It’s not a huge portion, but it’s so rich and so heavy that I’m not sure you’d want much more. I think this would be amazing if you like dark chocolate. I’m more of a “milk chocolate guy,” so it wasn’t necessarily to my taste. That said, I’m looking forward to trying the mango. It was certainly a high quality item.
Obviously, I wasn’t too pleased with one of the new additions to Cosmic Ray’s menu. If you decide to try the burger (would you really?) or see other reviews, I would be interested to see other people’s takes on it.
Here’s the rest of the new Cosmic Ray’s menu. A list of differences between this menu and the old menu follows.

That looks like something someone would put together at 3am after a night of heavy drinking and even then they wouldn’t consume it. Gelato looks good and I do enjoy dark over milk!
you missed the cucumber salad, lol.
who is on first and what is on third
How said about the pizza burger. I grew up eating them, the recipe used to be on every box of Thomas’s English Muffins. The idea is simple, toasted English to mimic crunchy pizza crust, burger, pizza sauce or tomato sauce (not a chunky pasta sauce) and a slice of mozzarella. They were great, a bit messy and fun.
I think the ham is an excuse to charge $1 extra.
I think the person who designed that sandwich has both culinary and aesthetic issues but the term you used – YUCK!!, covers it all!!
well lets get serious here people, had anyone ever ordered PIZZA in Florida…being from NJ and growing up with some the best pizza places around, I once ordered a pizza over the phone from my resort…I was quickly deterred by the question “what do you want IN it?”…hung up got taco bell!! …so no, I would definatley not expect Disney to do pizza right (albeit in Epcot where people are brought in to prepare it!! ) but I must say your review was alot more than I expected on the suprise meter!! LOL
I think I threw up a little! That is just plain disgusting looking!! I may have to move if someone sits next to me with one of those things.
That is truly gross. Would have been better, maybe, to leave the hamburger patty off altogether and just put what would be pizza ingredients inside a bun (maybe all but the pizza dough/crust itself). Even then I probably wouldn’t order it. I don’t like dark chocolate either, so even the Mickey Bar doesn’t taste that great to me (had one in November…won’t ever get another one). I’d get the no-sugar-added (which is not the same as sugar free…it just means they didn’t add any MORE sugar to what was already in its ingredients) mango one. Or I’d stick with the yummy Dole products over at Aloha Isle.
Thank you for the photo warning, that is…….. just……..I don’t…..just ….WRONG!!!!!!!!!! if you can’t read spanish you won’t even know that there is a ham slab on the thing…. its name should be the one ” It-which-must-not-be-named” ………..GAG!!!!!!
Let me get this straight. You ate this stuff…and you’re still alive? Your stomach must be an anomaly of science.
Maybe you can work some wonders with your camera and make this thing look edible. I’m not sure if any amount of post-production wizardry would help.
In a theoretical environment, you would think a pizza burger would “work.” The Meatball Subs after all are a popular item. They consist of basically the same ingredients. This thing is just insane though and as previously pointed out, they don’t even tell you it has ham or mushrooms on it – at least in English. I can just imagine Junior begging for this thing only to find out that it’s completely disgusting. I’m not sure what Cosmic Ray’s return policy is.
My Photoshop wizardry knows no bounds. I’ve gone ahead and “improved” the biggest offender for you: http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee68/tbricker/Disney%20Food/aaaqqq100.jpg
As disgusting as it looks, I fear I might still find myself ordering it on our next trip just to see it myself. I guess I am glutton for punishment.
Ok, I was laughing to the point of crying with this description of this. My DH, who always thinks I am crazy for researching Disney so much even laughed hysterically. I will NOT try this on my upcoming visit. Great job on this website. I love it!
Thanks for the warning! It did sound ok from the English description. Ham?!
I actually think this looks good. We order pizza with italian ham
on it all the time. We even make our own pizza burgers! I guess I will try for myself. Love your review though! LOL
I can attest to the yuckness of the pizza burger, since I made the mistake of ordering one today. The pizza burger is nasty. I wish there was some way to give Disney feedback about their food. So far my experience at their restaurants overall has been marginal. The folks at Disney seem greedy about charging high prices for mediocre quality food.
