Are you driving? I live right outside of Philly. The last 2 times we drove, we left Disney about 5pm and drove straight through. We were home by 8am and didn't hit any traffic. Leaving to go to Disney, we leave at 8pm and drive straight through.
Thanks Jilly, that's what I thought also but wasn't sure. Now I just need industrial tranquilizers to knock my boys out.
My youngest is 13 and my older boy is 15. They're travling with me, my daughter, my wife, and my daughter's boyfriend. We have a laptop that I figured they could watch DVDs on but my daughter who is studying to be a lower grades teacher thinks she has all the answers when it comes to the boys.
As a fellow Philadelphian there is only one good answer to this......
NEVER! Just kidding
I think some of it has to do with what days you're traveling. We live about an hour north of Philly. We leave Disney about 6:00 a.m. on a Saturday morning and drive to Ashland, VA to spend the night. We leave there about 7:00 a.m. the next morning and we're home by noon on Sunday. Since it's the weekend, we miss all the business traffic. We also leave home to drive down to Disney at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, drive to Savannah, GA to spend the night. Hit the road by 8:00 the next morning and we're at Disney shortly after noon. Not sure how things will go next June because we'll be leaving Disney on a Sunday so we'll be traveling through the DC area on a Monday morning. Yuck.
I'm the same way -- I buy stuff to keep my younger kids busy and they don't touch 90% of it. They sleep and listen to their music most of the time. I always put their stuff in individual bags for each of them so there's no fighting over toys or snacks. When we got home from our last trip, I took everything they hadn't touched (other than the snacks) and dumped it in my Disney bin to save for the next trip. I don't think I'll need to buy anything for our trip next June.
LOL! I have a 23 yo DS with a degree in elementary ed. He's been a real joy to have at home this summer telling me how I should be handling the 7, 12, & 13 yo's. It's a miracle that both he and his older brother both survived childhood and went on to earn college degrees since I didn't have anyone at the house telling me what to do with them while they were growing up. Oh, did I mention that I majored in childhood development in college?????Apparently that and 26 years of parenting experience don't count for anything.
