    Second guessing...

Saturday, May 14th, we're taking a "break" day. (We [me, DH, DD7, DS4] land on 5/9 in the evening and leave 5/17 in the early afternoon.) We have ressies for Ohana at 9 that morning, and HDDR at 5 that evening. My thought is, if this is a "break" day, will I want two dining reservations? I understand we have to eat anyway, but I'm just concerned with having a set time for dinner. Am I over thinking this??

Thanks in advance for your valuable and professional opinions.

I find break days a good day for a specific dinner time. However, unless I was staying at the Poly, I wouldn't want to do a 9:00 a.m. b-fast at Ohana. I like to be able to sleep in and not have anywhere to get to on break day. I find b-fast at the resort a great way to start the day. If staying at Poly or another monorail resort, that wouldn't be too much to handle, but I would not want to get everyone up, dressed and out the door early on a break day.

Agreed. 9AM is pretty early for a break day breakfast.

I think a later brunch and HDDR on a break day is a great idea. I agree that 9am at another resort is a bit too early for a break day though. I wouldn't want to have to be somewhere that early.

Oops, it's at 9:30. My kids will be up and at 'em long before that...guaranteed. I'm not fortunate enough to have kids that sleep in. No matter what time they go to bed, they wake up at the same time every morning...6 am. I would love to have a sleep-in day, but our break day won't consist of that. lol It will just be a day without going to the parks. We have a rental car, so we might head over to Bass Pro or DTD to hang out for a while, then back to the hotel pool. So you don't think the dinner ressie is a problem?

No problem with HDDR. I'd make the breakfast ADR later as well (and honestly - most people tend to be a bit more tired than usual at Disney, so you might find that they will sleep in). I'd go for a 10:30 ADR for breakfast, personally - but, you know your family best. If you're sure the 9:30 ADR won't be an issue, then you shouldn't have much trouble with either ADR.

I agree with Lisa. My sister tells me time after time that her kids never sleep in but every time they sleep over at our house, they crash around 11 PM and sleep in until 8 AM or later. DSis is always shocked. Another thing.....they might not sleep in but they might enjoy just having a lazy morning where they don't have to go anywhere. Maybe just turn on the TV, have some snacks and just enjoy hanging out in your PJs for a few hours!! The thing that makes a break day so nice is the lazy morning.

Even if everyone is awake, it's just nice not to have the time pressure of "having to be somewhere". And, if everyone is not awake, you don't have to wake them up.

Thanks so much! I'll see if I can make it a bit later, just in case. :)

Another question, if you don't mind... I have two reservations for Biergarten prior to watching Illuminations. One is at 5:45 and the other is at 7:20. I need to cancel one of them, and not sure which is best prior to Illum. Think the later one will give us enough time to eat and find a good viewing spot?

Thanks again. This is only our 2nd trip to Disney, so I'm still learning. I'm better than I was, but have a long way to go to be a pro! :)

I'd do the earlier one - the later one there's more risk of not being seated on time - and you don't want to be in a position where you're rushing to finish your meal. You can always kill time in the World Showcase after the earlier ADR.

You may not even be out in time to see Illuminations, let alone have time to find a good spot. I would definitely keep the 1st one.

My kids never sleep in on break days (up by 6:30 unfortunately) but we do just lay around in our pjs watching tv and munching on breakfast foods in our resort for a couple hour before throwing on our swimsuits and heading to the pool. That's the beauty of a break day; no need to be anywhere at any particular time in the morning. We have booked a late breakfast ADR on break day but that's typically closer to 11:30 (not an option for 'Ohana but 1900PF is an option) if we do it at all.
