Can older kids order from kids menu?

We will not be on the dining plan. I have two kids who will be 11 & 12 at travel time. Both will want the kids meals probably every where we go. They aren't huge eaters and aren't interested in adult food. Will they be able to order from the kids menu? Thanks!

Yes, I don't think it will be a problem.

Usually. I've read that La Hacienda has given a hard time about "adults" wanting a kid's meal, but 99% of the time it's not an issue.

If they'd rather have adult portions at some locations, you can always ask them to make the dish plain (sauce on the side, omit the mushrooms, etc.).

At fixed price restaurants, be aware that even if they eat only kids foods and not very much you still have to pay based on their ages.

In addition to LaHacienda, I've also read reviews of The Plaza Restaurant where servers have asked kids their ages and refused to allow them to order off the kids' menu which really surprises me. Most reviews I've read they've allowed it even when people have volunteered the info that they child is 10 or over. I guess maybe there's a particular server who's really strict with the rules for some reason?

Remember that if they're refused ordering from a kids menu you can easily ask for adult meals to be modified to be made simpler, you can order sides or appetizers instead of meals or they can split a meal that's been made simpler if the meals are too big.

Yeah, at buffets you're going to be paying the full adult price. If four adults on a reservation for four tried to order the Kids Meals, you might run into some problems. I'm not sure how they would handle that, especially if it came down to "Give us the Kids Picks or we're going to walk away infuriated." With a couple of full priced adult entrees purchased along with whatever else, I don't think you'll run into a problem. You may run into one problem, but generally speaking it'll be just fine.

Also remember that at any Quick Service, it doesn't seem to matter at all, since they are never sure who you are carrying the food back to. My family (2 adults, DS9, DS6) ate different combos of kid/adult meals all the time, which was an awesome value on the QS dining plan as it meant I paid for my DS9 as a kid, but he often ate as an adult. Of course, sometimes I ate as a kid, so it probably evened out (except for the awesome value that was the Pepper Market, since it's a buffet that counted as a QS meal for breakfast!)

My DD 15 is by far one of the most picky eaters on the planet and will either split with me, eat a ceasar salad or order from the kids menu. We have never had a issue doing so. Sometimes they will simply make the childern's portion larger and charge a "adult" price which works out just as good. Other times they simply serve her a regular kids meal. I always feel funny when this happens and will offer to pay an "upcharge" but most of the time it doesn't seem to matter. I am sure it depends on the server.
