    2013 California Grill Grande Refurb

    I just received word...

"The California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort will be closed for a lengthy refurb from Jan. 6, 2013 until late Summer 2013."

It won't ruin the trip or anything but I was so bummed when I heard that. We arrive on Jan 6th, staying at BLT with my inlaws as built in babysitters. I was so looking forward to being able to walk over to CA Grill and enjoy an adult evening with an easy trip back to the room at the end.

Maybe they'll change up The Wave's menu significantly and offer some of the California Grill's signature dishes.

I think The Wave is more than an adequate Plan B. The price point is much easier, and I prefer its menu.

It's about time CG got a makeover. It hasn't been stylish since Flashdance was out. And it wasn't even in existence at that time. There's a great opportunity to capitalize on the mid-century modern style, which is not only appropriate to the restaurant, but to the Contemporary Resort as well. C'mon, Disney, don't let me down!

I was really concerned when I first saw this news, as the CG is one of my favorite restaurants on the planet. I don't really notice things like decor when I'm enjoying an amazing meal with world class service and a view over the Seven Seas Lagoon and the Magic Kingdom that you just can't get anywhere else. I've since read that most of the changes are cosmetic, with the menu and the sushi staying more or less the same (whew!).

I was disappointed to hear this and am trying to convince hubby to go one more time in November. It's not his favorite restaurant though so I'm still working on it! I'm excited to see what changes they bring!
