Question about Substitutions at TS Restaurants

We have ressies at T-Rex and Rainforest Cafe. I have noticed when looking over the menus that you can add a salad for $xx.xx at these and other TS.

My question is this: If I am on the DDP and ask to substitute salad for the fries/chips rather than add them as a side, will I be charged extra for that being that I am substituting and not adding? I have diabetes and it is noted on all my ressies - I can't do fries or chips. I know Disney's policy is to "accommodate special dietary needs", but I've never asked to substitute anything before. Will they take that into consideration or will they charge me anyway?

    TIA

I would guess it varies by restaurant and then by restaurant even by manager/server. I would guess that most will try to be accommodating as it sounds like a perfectly reasonable request.

My guess would be that at restaurants like T-Rex and Rainforest Cafe that are not owned by Disney that you will be charged the extra but that's just a guess. Non-Disney owned restaurants typically do not offer the flexibility that Disney owned restaurants offer. It's certainly worth asking about the substitution. If you ask then the worst they can say is no. If you don't ask then it's definitely a no.

My suggestion is to be prepared to pay the charge and if you're not then you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I can't give you a definitive answer, but I can tell you that we've found Rainforest Cafe to be very sensitive to dietary restrictions and allergies. I have not been in your exact situation with them, but they have been extremely accomodating for us and we haven't had any extra charges. You might try calling them in advance (i.e. RFC or TRex- not Disney Dining) to see if anyone can quote you specific policy.

Thanks to you both. I will give them a call and see where I get with that. Hopefully they're willing to be flexible - if not, I will just have to pay the upcharge.
