Huey Lewis is coming to our little amphitheater this summer, I was thinking about getting tickets. It's funny, I don't listen to classic rock now - I like modern stuff, but I do enjoy a good "vintage" concert every few years or so.
Saw Steve Miller at our State Fair a few years ago, and it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Way better than he was "back in the day". Last year's Cheap Trick concert was pretty kick-a** too.
One band I'd love to see live is Foo Fighters. Pretty sure they won't be doing any State Fairs for awhile yet.
Yeah, we were too cool, right? We all hated Mike. He was too pretty. (Not really, he's one of the nicest guys in the world.) We went through some changes. I was playing bass when we started, but by the time that photo was made, I was the frontman. Was a bit of a mockingbird back then. I still have an acoustic guitar and a pig-nose amp, but I rarely play anymore. We bought the kids a nice Yamaha keyboard last year (it's amazing what these things can do now) and I piddle with it occasionally to try to encourage them to play. My daughter wants to play like Jane Child, but has the patience not of Job. My son hasn't shown much interest. I figure he'll come around like I did - when he discovers girls.
That is too cool. I can't remember how many Bridge of Sighs cassettes I played to death. I've been wanting to take my kids to a concert before all the 70s groups stop touring. Heard on the radio yesterday that CS&N is coming to Atlanta next month. That would be a good one. What I really want is to take them to Chastain Park to see James Taylor. In the mid-80s, The Wife and I, and my best friend and his wife, all went to Chastain to see him. We were stuck in traffic waiting to park, and this guy comes riding by on a 10-speed. I said "Hey, that guy looked just like James." My friend said "Nah, surely he's got a limo dropping him off." The next day there was a review in the Atlanta Journal that said "He arrived at Chastain Park like he always does...on his bicycle."![]()
Hey Brandi...have you always lived in the NOLA area? We moved from Belle Chase when I was 12 and it sounds like you're only a bit younger than me. Wonder if we ever crossed paths...

1st Trip to WDW - March 2009 to celebrate a 5th birthday
2nd Trip to WDW - May 2012 to celebrate a 5th birthday
I can only assume that trip #3 will be Jan 2015 (you guessed it, 5th birthday)
I love George Michael's flamboyant style, and always assumed he was gay. He was just so much like all the guys I took fashion design classes with. I mean, he's an exact copy of their fashion, hair, everything.
The one that always surprised me was Richard Gere. He's so prim and proper and elegant, I have a hard time imagining him straight.
I was 6 in '69. First concert was Kiss in 1977. I tried talking my parents into taking me to see Alice Cooper in 1973 but they didn't go for it.
Oh, I'm new here, by the way.![]()
What a fun thread!!Ok, I was 13 in '69. Didn't get to my first real concert until '72 for the Alice Cooper "Schools Out" tour. After that, it has been too many concerts to keep track of (or maybe remember).
Since Pam broke out her pictures, here you go circa 1973:

That is me on the left. Josh probably won't recognize me without the "stash.

Holy smokes Dennis, that's one rockin' "art photo" of your band! I'm decently certain those are the largest bow ties I've seen in my entire life.
Welcome BongoFury! We were born the same year. But don't let that keep you from enjoying the place!
I feel better now that I know I am not the only one! One day I felt young, the next day I was old and blind - well not really blind - but in need of bifocals! However, as my husband says, it's better than the alternative.
I was in kindergarten in '69. Back then, we went a couple days a week and made animals out of clay.
I was born in June 1968, so I was just a babe in '69.
I was a bit young for most of the 70s music at the time - I probably got to know much more of it when I got to college - you know, there were always groups who were into retro rather than the music of the time (which for me was late 80s when I was at college). 80s rock bands were my formative music, and I went to as many concerts as I could when I was in college. It was my only chance - being from a small island we didn't get any rock bands passing through!
paul.jpgYou know, I read that at first as "she didn't have me until she was 80"
I'm the baby. My Granddaddy was the first person born in the US in the 20th century. My Dad was born in 26 and my mom in 31.
I married a guy 8 years younger than I and sometimes, just sometimes, in our conversations there's an actual generation gap.
I just edited to add a picture of my older brother in 1973. Check out those sideburns :-)

I am a figment of your imagination.
I love the hat rack behind him with the seventybazillion cowboy hats. I guess you are a native Texan?
