Yah Girls Only Trip...and oh I Gotta Run That Crazy Race.

I've never done a trip report, so please be kind.

My name is Kelly and I am a WDW-holic. Or a Disney-phile. Whichever term works best for you. My first trip to WDW took place in August of 1996 for my honeymoon. I had wanted to go as a teen and my parents never wanted to take us, so when my husband asked where I wanted to go, I knew the exact place. We actually stayed in Kissimmee and did Sea World, Disney, and I think US. To be honest it's all kind of a blur...we drove all night, and well, it WAS a long time ago

Since then we've gone 7 or 8 times with various numbers of children. We have stayed on poperty and off property at time shares. If I had my druthers, we'd always stay on property, but since the kids number 4 now it tends to be very cost prohibitive for us.

Most of the on property stays were at values, except for one. We stayed at POR when our third child was 4. LOVED IT.

Last year we went to Disney in first week of June, stayed at timeshare somewhere...it was fairly close, but not as close as I would have liked. Youngest had just turned 3 and others wanted to go so we twisted husband's arm and we went. BUT he is pretty much done with WDW. which does not bode well for the future....

By mid-July I realized I was gonna need another Disney fix, but needed a plan to get it. My husband is a runner and I am not. period. Running sucks. It makes you sweat and breathe hard and et's face it there are other things you can do which have the same result and are more fun But I had an inspritation. I came across a mention of the Princess half marathon and I thought BINGO! "Honey, what would you say to you and I training together for this Disney half?" (he did the marathon in 2006 and I gladly went along to cheer him on) He thought that was a good idea and he agreed. BUT notice the title of this report??? Girls only.

Remember I mentioned we have 4 kids? We also don't have any family living closer than 2 1/2 hours. I began to realize we didn't have anyone to watch our kids....thus I approached him and suggested maybe I could do a gal pal trip with some of my closest friends...and surprise. He said yes. (anything to get me to run)

Unfortunately, all of my closest gal pals except one decided not to participate. Something about they couldn't do Disney since their kids hadn't gone yet...blah...blah lol. But I do have a girlfriend (we'll call her B) getting married in June and she was anxious to get back into shape. SHE SAID YES! On the down side, she was arunner, and has enthusiastically gotten back into it...ugh. Runners suck.

Now B did actually go with our family on a trip in 2005. This was when thied child was 2. I had just discovered TGM, thought I could do the tour plan thing...and I turned into a nazi. We all laugh about that trip.........now.

The particulars of the trip are we fly from Chicago on Thursday Feb 23rd at 6AM ( so I count this as a full DIsney day) and leave Monday, Feb 27th around noon. So I get to enjoy Thur, Fri, and Sat of just being at Disney. We are staying at All Star Music - really wanted to splurge on something nicer but knew my hubby would never go for that.

Wow...I hope I haven't been blathering too much....I just enjoy reading so much of everyone's history on here I thought I'd share...sorry! Next i will write about my "training" for the half- marathon....dear Lord help me now.

Oooo a running report, I ran the disney 1/2 in january during a family trip, would love to do a girls only trip, but since I am from the UK that isn't going to happen can't wait to hear all about it, especially as all the people I know are going to the princess 1/2 and I'm not

Yay! I'm looking forward to reading more. I'm also running the Princess half. I did the Tinker Bell half last month & it was my first ever. Surprisingly, it was fun! I am NOT a runner & I don`t like running but I wanted that Tink medal. And since I got the Tink I figured I might as well get the Princess & the Coast to Coast.

This will be a solo trip for me as NONE of my friends would go with me (I`m hoping it was the running part & not the me part). I am meeting lots of online friends there though so I am very excited about that. I tried to get Josh to run too but I think it`s a no go. Maybe he`ll buy us GGLS`s after the race.

I'm in! I've never been a runner and, as much as I would love to have an excuse to go to WDW, I don't think I could ever be a runner just to get a trip to WDW so I admire anyone who does!

Im excited to read and follow this report. I just found out that there is a 10 Miler race going on at DHS during our trip in Sept and told DH I thinking of trying it. I am not a runner. Pretty much feel the same way you do "Why would anyone want to do that to their poor body" But then all the sudden I decided to give it a go.
Im anxious to hear all about the process of the run and your trip!

Why am I doing this???? Running sucks.

So, even though I do not enjoy running, I do like walking, but only under certain circumstances. Like when it's warm...at least 65 degrees....which it is not here in northern Illinois - even if we have had a fairly benign winter. So this leaves me to using a treadmill....and ours is currently broken.

Since I really loath running, I procrastinated this whole getting into shape thing. I did convince my husband we should join the closest fitness gym (15 in awa) in January and we could work out together...still playing along with the whole "sure I'm gonna run a half marathon". Unfortunately the most convenient time for us to go is after our youngest has gone to bed...so we regularly do not get to the gym until around 8:45. But have seen a lot more primetime TV than normal

I did take the time to access the schedule of running given on the half-marathon website and really it would have been very easy to do...if I had wanted to I also bought some great workout clothes but ya gotta look good right?

My friend B is very gung ho and has gotten herself to running ten minute miles. This is not going to happen EVER for me. BUT I am happy to announce that I can do some alternate running and walking which average out to about 14 minutes per mile. And I'm ok with that. She swears she'll just go at my pace...we'll see....

My biggest concern is that I have not done the long run. My farthest is 6 miles. I was going to do 8 yesterday and 10 tomorrow but my husband says that would be too hard on me??? He convinced me to wait until tomorrow and get up early and do the ten mile run. So that's the plan. I can't even imagine being on the treadmill for like 2 1/2 hours...but I will do it.

What have I learned about myself? I could probably be a decent 5K runner if I wanted to be. I don't.

Am I nervous about next Sunday? Yes, very much. Deep down I do really want to accomplish a half marathon, I think it would be neat to say I did it. Also I don't want to be embarrassed and pulled off the course. See my biggest goal was a trip to Disney, but I want to prove to myself I can do this...I guess to show I am not completely out of shape at 41. But like I said, there has been some procrastination....

Darcie you probably won't see me because I will be in the last corral - with all the SLOW people. But am glad you are going to do it even without your friends...I don't think I would be brave enough to do that.

My pace is the same as yours - for the Tink I averaged 14.07/mile. And guess what? I got the same medal as the people who crossed the finish line first! I'm also 41 & started running just for the Tinker Bell half. It was a great feeling to be able to finish the half. Before that my furthest run was 8.5 miles so you'll be fine even if you run 8 tomorrow. Running at Disney was so much fun & the 13.1 miles flew by. You'll do great!!

Can't wait to hear how the race and the trip goes.

How did your 10 mile run go this morning?

Rowan - I signed up for the ToT 10 miler last week. So I'll be running it.

Darcie - I'm 41 and started running so I can do the ToT 10 miler. Glad to know I'm not the only one crazy enough to start running just because they want the medal :)
