MK on October 1st - Should we or shouldn't we?

We arrive to Disney on 10/1 at 9:45 am staying at BLT. After check-in, we plan on heading over to the MK to celebrate it's 40th Birthday. DH and I both turn 40 this year so we thought it would be awesome to be celebrating along with the MK, but I am concerned about the crowds. Will it be crazy? We don't have any expectations on rides. Just going for fillers and atmosphere followed by dinner at either Chef Mickey's or LTT.

Should we go with the MK or maybe go for the safer AK (12 - 5)?

    TIA!!

Hard to say until they announce whether or not something "special" will be going on. Even if it is really crowded, if you have no expectations of getting on Space Mountain at 3pm when a 5 minute wait then it should be perfectly enjoyable. Unless they're doing a one time fireworks show or something I can't imagine it would be any higher than a "7 or an 8" if we were rating crowds on a "per park basis." Maybe a 7.134 and 8.341 to add some decimal points. You would certainly find lower crowds at Animal Kingdom.

Ok, thanks. I'll sit tight and hope they announce something soon, but it sounds like we should be ok. It's just too convenient staying at BLT! I don't think we could be so close and not go there to celebrate!

As far as Disney doing anything special as you say, you will have to wait for the announcement. However I think it sounds absolutely awesome to be in MK on 10/1 and is totally worth any crowd level. Of course if it were crazy, I wouldn't want to stay too long, but I know I would want to be there, just to say I was. Then to celebrate a birthday or two on top of that only makes it better. So I would say go for MK!

I would go for it also. If only my trip was a few days earlier. Thank you again for the decimals Josh. It puts everything in context.

Go for it! That would awesome!! It's not like you're expecting any efficient touring anyway, so hang with the crowds and enjoy the party.

If I were staying at BLT where it is such an easy walk over there, I'd most definitely go. If you get there and the crowds start to get to you after an hour or two.....simply leave and go back and enjoy your resort. You have no high expectations of any major rides and just want atmosphere. I can't think of a better opportunity to get atmosphere then a causal walk into the MK. So my vote is to go for it!!!!
