Very cool find! Mike and I love thrift and lower end antique stores - always looking for motorcycle ephemera and such. So much fun when you find something really cool for a cheap price.

Love the vintage tray-- so cool!
Boo for rain. A friend of mine flew down with her family this morning for a stay at the Poly, where she's been wanting to stay for years. I hope it clears up for them this week.

That pic is great! I actually found DD back in her bed when I went to check on her, so the novelty of sleeping on pillows didn't last too long haha!

It must be vintage because you can't find anything at WDW for $2 anymore.

There's a new Great Clips in our little WI town, and they're having a $3.99 haircut promotion. I need a cut, but the place was packed yesterday. So, you guessed it, we're going to rope drop Great Clips at 9AM.

You learn something new everyday. George, I never would have guessed you were a $3.99 haircut kind of guy.
Next, you'll be telling that you've actually stayed at a value resort.

Definitely need to RD everything. Just today I was chuckling over this as I waited around 20th in line for Granite-Con with my kids (NH Comic-Con).

I love thrift stores. Just 2 weeks ago DH found brand new, still with tags, WDW baseball hats for the girls. They were actually pretty recent patterns, both from Splash Mountain. Great deal for $1 each.

Thrift stores and stuff out here aren't that great. I think it's because the mentality of many people out here (including myself) is to keep things until they are basically ruined/old/broken/worn out. So it's hard to find decent things second hand.

Yeah, I pay $3.99 for my haircuts - when I don't have a free haircut coupon. We choose our battles. I'd rather spend money on things that are going to make me money in return. And we always make sure the retirement fund gets paid first before any discretionary spending. Early retirement is our #1 priority.

Did I mention real estate is an excellent investment, even in these lean times? Here's the family room of our fabulous 50s lake house in Wisconsin, where we spend our weekends. 90% of it is filled with things we find at local thrift stores/estate sales. We just reupholstered the built-in sofas and bought a few things here and there. It's a project for us to collect things. The pottery can be had for about $1 each, and most of the lamps are less than $5. All original vintage stuff. We want to steal everything from the Tune-In Lounge, BTW, but that stuff is glued down. We checked.

George has somehow moved into my dream house.

We have found some nice mid-century stuff in thrift stores and estate sales around here. Luckily, I have two friends who are avid "antique" hounds. Their taste runs more to country Victorian. They think I have no taste. I think their house looks like the Hootersville funeral parlor. However, they are happy to pick up mid-century finds for me when they see them.

I don't need to go to thrift stores for furniture. We have what I call dead relative furniture. Chairs and tables from dead grandmothers. I had a whole bedroom set from a great aunt that I used for a while then sold on Craig's List. We have sofa and chairs in the basement from a friend's dead dad. My dad is an antique dealer so some family things that were not deemed valuable enough made their way to my house, mostly because I wasn't allowed to say "no." They go very well with my Ikea furniture. Nothing so stylish as George's lake house.

That's pretty much how our house has been decorated. I think I've only bought 2 pieces of furniture in our whole house! But between grandparents leaving stuff behind and my parents and DH parents redecorating we have accumulated enough to fill an entire house. My kids both have beds that their grandparents slept in as children! Nothing in our house is "matchy matchy," my hubby calls it antique chic!

Funny you should ask that, Judy, because I took that photo to show it to my dad.

In February, 20111, my parents sponsored a heart for the Northwestern Memorial Hospital's Cardiac Center. There were several dozen different hearts up and down Michigan Ave in downtown Chicago that month, sponsored by different benefactors. Mom passed away on Feb 27 that month (leave it to her to wait until the month was over!) from, among other things, cardiac complications. We (the family) didn't know what to do with the heart, so Greg and I volunteered to take it up to Wisconsin, where we put it in the side garden during the spring-fall months. So even though both my parents' names are on it, it serves as a memorial to mom. And we can see it from inside too, which is why I took the picture to show my dad. You can see some of the other hearts here.

What an awesome memorial for your mom. I'm glad that Judy asked too.

Just had to post, we had my parents over for dinner tonight and booked airfare, and both rooms at WL for our Decemeber trip. It worked out really well, the trip is going to be a suprise to our son and I was really worried that we wouldn't be able to get everything taken care of while they were at our house, but he went outside and played the entire time. He was none the wiser, now if my Mom can just keep the secret. It's a known fact that she is the world's worst keeper of secrets. So now we have to make our ADRs next Sunday morning for December, the day before we leave for our trip with my friend and his family. My wife asked me tonight, "How can you even think about our December trip, when we haven't even left for our June trip?" I said, "Are you kidding me, I could 10 of these trips a year."
    Josh (No, not that one)
