View Full Version : Trip is over - sometimes the plans go out the window!

Not sure I can manage a full blown trip report but wanted to say thank you to you guys and to Josh for helping me so much with getting plans set for this trip.

I had a very sick little girl for the first half of the trip so many of the plans went out the window or had to be altered. Fortunately I learned enough from you guys to make those changes and still avoid waits for rides. My sick girl was a real trooper and still made it to all of the parks and on rides, but it wasn’t quite the same as it would have been if she was feeling well. She started feeling better on our break day then we went to HS on Thurs. 5/17…yup, the rope drop day, rotten luck. We made it work, again thinking on the fly and changing things up thanks to all of my reading time here.

Overall, it really was a great trip. I just spent too much of it worrying or feeling like I was dragging everyone along to do things (I don’t think they think it felt that way, just my perspective as the “planner”), so I didn’t get to relax and enjoy like I wanted to this time. That makes it sound like I didn’t have fun, not what I mean at all. I had a great time, just not what I had envisioned. Unfortunately we only go once every 3 years so I have a long wait to do it again.

So, thank you all so much for all of your help. I would have “literally” been in tears trying to deal with a sick kid and trying to make it fun for everyone with out the knowledge you all shared with me. That knowledge helped me think on my feet to re-work things when needed. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Being sick at DW sucks. We did it one year, and I don't recommend it.

I'm glad you were able to switch things up on the fly and make the magic happen anyway. I agree that as the planner there's this extra tension we have to make everything work right, and we feel responsible if it doesn't, so it's sometimes tough to just relax and "go with the flow". Even when we are not following a play-by-play schedule, my DH knows I'm the one that's done all the research and so he can ask "what's next?" and expect me to have a ready answer.

One thing that I've figured out is that sometimes I enjoy a trip more looking back at it than I did while we were actually experiencing it! We've got a digital picture frame that's loaded with tons of photos of our vacations, and I love that daily visual reminder of those fun times.

So sorry that your little girl was sick. :( Good for you for being able to roll with the punches though. Like Pam said, just wait until you look at the pics I bet you'll be smiling looking at them. :)

I'm sorry your little girl was sick, no fun on vacation. I'm hoping I can relax, I'm probably going to spend our vacation in tour guide mode as well. I'm glad you still had fun, I can't wait to see the pics!

Sorry to hear about your sick girl, but part of the beauty of knowing how to plan is being able to switch plans at the last minute and still have a comfortable, workable plan.

We just got back from our trip, and we made several last-minute changes to our plans. They mostly involved ADRs, but then there was that one morning when we showed up on Tuesday at 8:20 for the 7:30 Magic Behind Our Steam Trains tour! Fortunately, they let us re-book for Friday. Friday was to be our MK day anyway, since both days were "highly recommended" days. We just toured MK on Tuesday morning instead of Friday morning, no ADRs were harmed in the process, and we still made our parasailing reservation on Tuesday at 3:30.

Another example was on Saturday, our Epcot day. I hadn't made an ADR for lunch. A day or two before, a friend from Jacksonville (another internet weirdo friend from the Sondheim Board) texted to let us know he'd be at The World with some friends, and wanted to meet up with us for a while. I made an on-the-fly ADR at Rose and Crown, and we met for lunch on the patio and had a good leisurely time catching up with him. We then caught a few WS attractions (he'd never seen the France film!) before he left us to re-join his friends. So that worked out really well too.

No Way!!!! Get out of here! I can't believe someone who's been to Epcot before and not seen Impressions de France :RpS_ohmy:

I've never seen any of the WS films, planned to ride the norway ride this time but it didn't work out since 2 of the girls were sleeping in the stroller and we didn't feel like waiting the 30 min posted wait at the time or waking them up. So, I guess the France one is good?

Selena,

I am so sorry your little girl was sick :( Hope she was still able to enjoy the whole trip.
Stuff always happens but it's how you deal with that stuff that matters.
You knew enough to make the changes needed, roll with the punches- even those of us that go more often have to do that every trip! I honestly can't say we have ever had a day at DHS that went all that well!

What I want to know is if you and DH still had your date night and how was that?

The France movie is lovely- plus it's a very comfy sit down theater- the other 2 are stand up events that usually make me very dizzy.

I think she did enjoy most of it, she just wasn't herself since she had a fever. She perked up here and there and had some fun with characters and on some rides. She tired really easily.

And yes, we did have 2 date nights. One strolling, eating and drinking at EPCOT and one relaxing and gorging ourselves at Ohana. Both were fun and we were thankful to have some time to ourselves.

This picture really makes me smile, so yes, the photos do help me relive the good stuff:

Ack, I accidentally re-sized too small. Let me try that again.

By the way, that hair was done by the "Bibbity MOMMY Boutique". That's right, I'm cheap but good LOL!

Beautiful!!! I personally think Bibbity Mommy Boutique does prettier hair than BBB, I'm just not a real big fan of the super-tight bun they do.

I don't know about those, but we saw a few little girls during the week that had pretty nasTEE non-matching hair extensions, courtesy of BBB. And their parents probably paid a pretty penny for them too.

Agreed!

Sorry your sweet girl was sick. We are on our last full day and my 2yo woke up with a mild fever and cough this morning. So I am enjoying some down time with him today! I'm so glad we have gotten to "do" everything at the top of everyone's list so no one is feeling a loss by slowing down today.

Adorable! I'm succumbing to the other Bibbidi, because, well, this mommy has got no skillz. None. If they wore 1's and 0's on their head, it would be a different matter. :RpS_laugh:

LOL......2 of my nieces choose to do that.....both getting Ariel red with their natural blond hair! In the end......it was all about the experience for the girls so I was okay throwing down the money.....but I do admit that I'm so not a fan of those.

Anyway......Selena....so sorry your little one was so sick. Nothing is worse then being sick at Disney!!! I'm glad that you were able to have a good trip anyway. Oh and I totally relate to your "planner" feelings. I actually broke down and cried our second to last day last trip because I felt like I was ruining the trip for everyone, etc. They all told me that it was an amazing trip, etc but I'm still not sure I believe them.....they are all nice people and would have said it if it was the worst trip ever!!!!

The thing is, I don't think they were even trying to do an obvious Ariel-red even though they were blonde. I think they were trying to match, and it, well, didn't look very convincing.

I do like the little tight buns with the princess dresses on, but I don't really care for the extensions. Mine had the tight buns and sparkle hair spray with crowns. I like their hair looking more natural most of the time but the buns made them look "fancier" so I like it for this purpose. This was the only time it was that way though. They wanted it out as soon as we got back to the condo. I would not have been too happy with that if I'd just spent the BBB money on it...

The ones you did are a traditional bun, but aren't as tight and heavily sprayed as they do at BBB, I think your daughters all look beautiful.

I'm not saying that BBB girls look bad, there is no such thing as an ugly pixie-dusted little princess or fairy ;)

gorgeous photo! glad you had fun, despite the illness. my dd got super sick on our trip a few years ago. had to change a lot of plans for the final two days, but what are you going to do? we only go every 2.5 - 3 years so i know how hard it is to wait!!

She is meaning that she didn't pay to go to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique (which can be expensive) and did the hair, etc herself. (And did a GREAT job I must add!!!)

Now....the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique can be found in both MK and DTD and you need to make a reservation in advance to get in.

Yup, that's it. I bought the crowns from the Disney store online (saw them at DTD too though) and bought some glitter spray from the drug store, used lots of elastics, bobby pins and gel/hair spray and voila!! Bibbity Mommy Boutique. Thanks Brenda!

we only go every 2.5 - 3 years so i know how hard it is to wait!!

That is exactly what made it more difficult. I couldn't just say "oh well, we'll do that when we're back in 6 months or a year"....it will be at least 2 1/2 years!! Still nothing you can do about it but make the best of it....so that's what we did. The funny thing is that she hasn't mentioned being sick to anyone...all she's talked about is the fun she had. Kids are amazing little things, good at seeing positives when we see negatives. That has made me feel much better about the bumps in the road during the trip! Love my girls!!

Ooops! :RpS_blushing: Well, that's unchartered territory then. Maybe Selena can set up a business just outside of Disney and make a fortune.

I live in DE so no business for me. However, if any of you would like to pay for my trip to WDW I'd happily take care of your child's hair every morning of the trip. Of course the BBB would probably be cheaper...

So glad to hear you had a great time despite the illness. We've had those troubles too! We've even had to go run into a gift shop and ask for an empty bag just to use as a barf bag. Ewww. They were more than happy to help and gave us a bunch. But those kids are troopers and really try their best not to drag the trip down for the rest of the family. Gotta love that! :RpS_wub:

Hmmm ... I might have to crunch those numbers, I've got three princesses myself! Well, two princesses and sTinkerbell. As long as you aren't expecting to eat at A&V's every night, it might work out!

Nope, counter service or take out from a local restaurant is just fine with me. Heck Dole Whip floats and cup cakes from Starring Rolls will do just fine. You let me know. I can even provide the crowns LOL! I may even apply sunscreen for a nominal additional charge. No babysitting though HA!

No, will check that one out too. I don't often do fancy stuff to their hair...with three of them and the need to be out to work in the morning there just isn't time. I like to do it occasionally though. Fun to learn new tricks!
