Hi there - I'm looking for some ideas on what our whole family can "dress up" as for the MNSSHP. It is me, DH, DD5 and DS22mo. My first thought is DD=Alice, DS=White Rabbit, DH=Mad Hatter and me=Queen of Hearts. But DH isn't thrilled with that idea, thinking he'd prefer to be less "dressed-up"... so maybe something that the kids can be in costume for, but us, not so much?
Also tossing around the idea of a family make-over at Pirate's League? (I know they won't do DS because he's too young, but figure I can make it work w/ just his clothes/hat/etc)
Any other ideas out there???
Thanks!

Pirate league is tough. Last booking is 3:30, an you are not the first to think it would be a good opportunity. Those are tough reservations to get. There are a lot of pirates at the party.

I saw a ghost buster family once. Guess they got them online. Baby could be a ghost. Of course-- I'm absolutely sure they heard 'Who ya gonna call' al night long. I heard that at last 3 times from the ferry dock to the turnstiles!

We're a group of nine and are going to do pirates. If I were bringing my youngest (who will be 18 months at the time of the trip) I was going to dress him as a parrot. My husband is not into dressing up a lot so he is going to wear all black with a mask/head thing and be the Dread Pirate Roberts.

On my last trip my son dressed up as Batman. The adults all just wore Halloween shirts. Mine had a skeleton print. If someone asked I said I was Bruce Wayne's mom, cause she's dead you know.

I LOVE the Alice idea. I also saw another family's cute MNSSHP pics and they went for a Toy Story 3 theme. I think mom was Barbie, dad was Ken, and the kids appeared to be Woody and Jessie (or maybe it was Buzz- suddenly drawing a blank). The parents' costumes were really spot on and over the top awesome, but it got me thinking that it was the kind of thing where the Barbie and Ken costumes could be more loose interpretations if the parents didn't want to be in full on costumes.

I love this idea.
DH would not need to be all that dressed up- would really just need the hat and gold jacket to pull it off. Maybe the bow tie as well.
Or maybe he'd rather dress as Tweedle Dum or Dee? LOL

But Alice etc are my favorite characters so I am biased ;)

I think it was vicki on here that got superhero t-shirts for her whole family. I thought they were great because they're practical but you all still look costumed up a bit.

We are doing Alice characters. It is just me & my girls on this trip so DD8 is the Queen of Hearts, DD5 is Alice & I am the Mad Hatter. I am just wearing the hat with a bright orange shirt & shorts. I might use a scarf for a big bow tie (or I might skip that if it is too hot!)

Or if DH is open to being a pirate, you could do Peter Pan characters. DD=Tink, DS=Peter, you=Wendy & DH=Captain Hook. Or he could just wear a top hat with round glasses & be John

My thoughts go toward what the 5 year old would be most excited about. She's the one who will be very into the costume thing, I assume. Does she have a favorite princess that she wants to be and then the rest of you could be characters from that movie? Or maybe a favorite book? Think about what you want to do during the party. If you're going on rides, then I would stay away from anything that goes on the head unless you're willing to take it on and off.

Can't wait to see what the more creative people on here come up with.

I REALLY want to Alice & Co for us, but 1) I want something less common and 2) the boys aren't on board. Pirates would work, but again, not unique enough for me. The only theme that I've suggested that hasn't been vehemently shot down by at least one of my family is - Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and Bo Peep. I don't know. DD really wants to be Rapunzel. I want to be a villian. Or if I wouldn't end up spending a small fortune, Captain EO.

I'm so not a grown up. I'm more excited about the costumes than my 7 & 8 year old. :RpS_lol:

I dread Halloween. Not creative and not into the costume thing. Most of the time DH is the one who takes the kids to buy their costumes. When he and I were dating, he and his roommates had a Halloween party. He went at Tinkerbell and I went as Peter Pan. I think a picture exists somewhere. Another year my 2 girlfriends and I went at the 3 blind mice.

I see from OP's ticker that she's going in Oct. We went to the Oct. 31 party 4 years ago. My kids were a cheerleader and a pirate. Simple costumes that were easy to pack and not too bulky. They did not need jackets. I would err on the side of worrying about getting too hot.

Last year my DD3 was Minnie, DS11 was Mickey and the rest of us (me, DH & DD15) were mouseketeers. We just had the t shirts and Mickey ears. It was cute and we got a lot of compliments on it.

Well, if I can't get DH to dress up, there is NO WAY he's wearing a red body-suit like Mr. Incredible ;) The Toy Story characters are a good idea, and we could definitely pass for Barbie & Ken (LOL jk).

And we ARE going in Oct, but the week prior to Halloween. The trip is a surprise for DD5 so I won't really be able to ask what she wants to be, although I guess I can pose the question of what she wants to be for Halloween in general.

I also like the super-hero idea - I could probably find some good stuff on etsy for that!

Thanks for all the ideas - you guys have made my first week here SO great!!!

What about DD= Rapunzel, you = Mother Gothel, and your men could be Flynn and/or some of the Ogres from the Snuggle Duckling?? ;)

DD could be Rapunzel, DS can be the chameleon (like this picture I found from google)

OMG I LOVE the Pascal idea, but you're right... way too hot for WDW. It's definitely on the list for Halloween here in PA though!!! Thanks!

Hmmm, I might be able to sell the Ogre idea. DS has made it extremely clear that he does NOT want to be Flynn, but DD could talk DH into it I'm sure. I'd thought about Pascal, but it seems better for a toddler than a tween.

One year all the adults dressed as pirates and the littles were Peter Pan and Tink... Very cute. Another year we did High School Musical. The kids were in basketball and cheerleader costumes and the adults wore tee shirts with the MNSSHP logo and basketball with Mickey ears. We got LOTS of attention and special treats from CMs and stayed cool in a hot night! Too bad that's so over because it was perfect. My advice is to wear something comfortable and themed but not over the top.

A group of us did Mickey Mouse Club very easily. Black pants or skirt, white tshirt with the MMC logo, and our names on the back of the shirt. Wear mousears if you want. We ordered the shirts from zazzle.com.

Another thing I did was Cruella Devile with my son as a dalmation.
