I have been a TGMmer since 2006 and switched to easywdw last year. We go to Disney every 12-18 months and usually stay around 10 nights but I have never done a trip report. I always enjoy reading other peoples reports so I figure, what the heck, I'll give it a go.

I just booked today. 10 nights at POR Riverside in one of the new Royal Rooms. Sept 21-Oct 1st.

Cast: Myself (Tara), 31 , I work from home doing payroll and accounts for a small construction company, except during Tax season when I work about 72 hours a week for a month. I am an obsessive planner. I worry myself into
a tissy over whether a 5:00ADR or 5:15 ADR is better and go back and forth on every decision about 30 times. Favorite ride=ummm, it changes hourly (SM, Peter Pan, TTA and BMTR are neck and neck)
DH (Eric), 36, foreman for said contruction company, very laid back and go with the flow, his response to every quesion is "I dont care, whatever you think" Sometimes this drives me crazy and other times I realize that he is the
only person who could ever handle my crazyiness. Favorite Ride= ToT
DD9, Elliotte (Ellie)- Loves everything, sweet natured little girl but extremely emotional, starting to become a bit of loner and prefer computer games over family time :RpS_sad: Favorite ride = RNR
DD6, Rowan, A true people pleaser, she wants to do whatever she thinks you will like, a true thrill seeker she is going to finally be tall enough for EE and SM and she cant wait. Favorite ride= BMTR but I expect that to change
now that she meets new height requirements.

The last trip I took was without my family, just me and my cousin. I had a good time but actully cried while boarding Splash Mountain. I missed the kids so much. Prior to that we have went every year with someone else, either we were traveling with friends or we took my parents with us. Since our honeymoon, I dont think we have been on a single vacation that involved just our single unit family. We have enjoyed traveling that way because we could switch off kids for an evening, split up in to girls and guys for a morning or whatever. But I am extremely excited to be planning a trip where the only opinions and wants to consider are our own. Yippee

In the past we have stayed at POR, Pop, AKL, WLV and CBR. We had decided that since we are go, go, go people and not relax at the resort people we liked saving money by staying at the Pop and have done that the last 2 trips. I also, decided about 3 years ago that I wanted to try a trip without ADRs and just do quick service so Pop during free dining was a good choice.

This year though, I want to focus more on what the kids want to do (instead of what the other family wants to do) and they like character meals. (Ugh) So we I decided on POR FQ so we would be close to a bus stop and could try something new, however, in researching that resort I came across a site (thank you Jana) that mentioned the new Royal Rooms at Riverside. OMG my kids are going to be in 7th heaven. The only reason we would maybe switch back to Pop would be if for some strange reason there is no free dining or other decent discount for our trip. Im not telling the girls about the room though, I want to let that be a surprise. Im thinking I can go to the desk to check in while DH shows them around the lobby and then I can come back and tell them that the hotel lost our reservations and sold our room to someone else but to make it up to us we are going to be staying in Princess Tiana's room.

The only bummer for me is that I had just gotten to the point where I felt I didnt really need to plan. I had decided that this trip I would just pick green days, go early and not worry about an exact plan since we pretty much know what is busy at what time and how to utilize FPs. And then "BAM" no more late FP using and Im back to thinking I need to work a plan. But that is half the fun, right! My main goal is to do 1 thing everyday that we havent done before at Disney.
Epcot is going to be the hardest to work that into I think, but I am determined to do it.

We do the same "no plan" kind of days - I have a calendar showing green parks, know what rides we need to get FP for and ride first, and that's about it. I like being able to wander and enjoy the afternoons, which we can do during the slow season.

I think the new FP policy won't affect us that much - except that it may get us to do more park hopping since there's no reason to be tied to the morning park with FP's we need to burn up!

I love your idea about telling the girls there was a reservation mix up and that you'll be staying in Princess Tiana's room!

Our trip will also be our first vacation without another family or grandparents. I, too, am excited for all the family time! Looking forward to reading more of your report. :)
