I'm helping a friend plan her trip. There will be 2 adults and 3 children (6 y/o girl, 16, y/o boy and 17 y/o boy). We got together a little over a week ago to go over some of their package options. Before she left, she told me that it's still iffy on whether the boys are going or not, especially the 17 y/o because she just found out that he's going to WDW at the end of May. Their trip is going to be mid-June and she didn't know if he'd want to go back after just being there. (Personally I'd love back-to-back trips!) She said that if the boys didn't go she has a friend and her friend's DD that could go in their place.
If the boys don't go that will change the party to 3 adults and 2 children. I'm assuming that she'll need to change the tickets in their package to reflect the price difference between 4 adult/1 child tickets to 3 adult/2 child tickets? Or how would that work?

Here's what I would personally do. I'd book the room with the people who I KNOW will be going. This means 2 adults and the 6yo. Then add on the other people once I figure out for sure who else is going. That way if the decision isn't made until within the 45 day window (which is a problem in so many other ways due logistics with the friends and their parents IMO), at least they won't have to worry about change fees since the fee is generally waived when the price goes up which it will when adding people.
Will everybody be in the same type of room regardless of who's going? If not, that can further complicate things as they'll need to decide what room to book up front.

Thanks Trudy! I think I'll recommend that to her. Since it will be 5 people she is looking at a suite as opposed to 2 rooms.
ITA with Trudy. The ticket price will go down with the 3/2 scenario, but the room rate will go up because of the the third adult. I'd start with the minimum then add as needed. Otherwise, depending on the type of change, they may be penalized. If they add to the group, Mickey will be happy and not charge a change fee.

Thanks Keri! I sent her a message on Facebook about just getting the 2 adult/1 child ticket for now and adding the others when she knows who will be going. She said "I didn't think of that!" lol so that's probably what she's going to do. At least I hope so, because as far as I know she hasn't booked yet. Hmmm...maybe I better ask her so we can start figuring out the touring plan.
