I'm pretty sure I already know the answer to this one, but I'm curious anyways...
If (and that's a big if) I choose to upgrade my QSDP to a DDP, I will pay the difference in price between the 2 plans. I booked my vacation in 2011. Do I pay the difference between the 2011 QSDP and the 2012 DDP? What if I had upgraded before the 2012 prices came out ? (which from what I can tell, the prices just came out mid December). Would Disney just charge me the difference as if I had upgraded it at the same time as I booked my package (yeah, I doubt it too:RpS_rolleyes:). It will cost me 200$ more to upgrade today than it would have cost me had I done it 3 weeks ago (hindsight...sigh)
Now, I happened to get my QSDP for free, so I recognize that I have no valid reason to complain. However, had I actually purchased my QSDP in 2011 to be used in 2012, I think I'd be pretty peeved at losing that 2nd snack. I'm sure this has affected someone here at one time or another, so I'm just wondering how Disney handles keeping everyone happy while changing their dining plans yearly?

The DDP pricing for 2012 has been out since summer. So, since you are booked for a 2012 trip....you are paying 2012 prices. It is the same on all package components. The only component that is ever a "purchased before the fee was raised" item are tickets. Rooms and DDP are always year specific.
So......you will pay the difference between the 2012 QSDP and the 2012 DDP because you have a 2012 package.

Hey!! If you have not upgraded, you better call and beg to do it now. I was told "no changes" b/c dining plan promo is over :( I hope they let ya do it.

I have never heard of them refusing an upgrade from one dining plan to another just because a booking window has closed. No begging should be required - it's amazing - they actually will be happy to take more of your money.
Now if you were trying to change resorts with a free dining package, that could be entirely different because it is based on the number of rooms available for the promo at each resort. There is no such limitation based on availability for what dining plan you have.
And as Brenda said, if you booked a 2012 trip with the QSDP - you never had that second snack to begin with, it was never part of the 2012 plans.

Thanks! Makes complete sense.
I have no idea if I'll end up upgrading the DDP, or trying to upgrade the resort. Just tossing around ideas, calculating, asking questions, etc. I'll have to make up my mind soon though! I'll keep you all updated, of course!

The unable to change comments come from CMs who don't know what they're talking about and make things up because they just don't know how to do it. Technically, I believe that the free QSDP and DDP deals use different discount codes which to the computers look like different promotions so you may need somebody in Guest Services to do the upgrade but it should be possible to do. This is one of those times where I love having a TA so I don't have to deal with educating CMs on how their system works. I know how it works but I really can't be bothered dealing with CMs at CRO. I love my TA!!

I haven't done anything about it yet...I have a day off on Thursday, and I'll have time to stay on the phone and argue :). I'll be asking them about upgrading to a mod (and getting basic dining plan), and also about just upgrading the dining package. I'll definitely post the results of that phone call on Thursday!
How's your mom?

Thank you for asking, she is much better. She was able to watch the National Championship game last night :) I have decided to stay with Pop Century (I promise, Sports and Pop get better reviews than any other resort) and stick with quick service plan but we will do one character dinner and one character breakfast. Chef Mickey's dinner (with family who live in Orlando and love CM's) and Donald's at Animal Kingdom. I can't find much updated info re: Donald's new character meal at AK. Am I understanding correctly??? It's now a lunch but with breakfast food? Haha Im clueless..

I'll probably stay at POP too, so I'll see you there! The boys will be playing at the pool together, and we'll look up and recognize each other ;).
allears.net has not updated their TH lunch menu since the change. Lunch is currently all lunch/dinner foods. Sounds like a good question to post!
What time is your ADR for TH on the 8th?
Just fyi, I pulled out my receipts from last year's stay. We spent 1000$ on food for 11 days, me and the 3 boys (one ate from adult menu). That includes 5 TS meals (Sci-fi, 50's Prime time, TH character breakfast, and twice at T-rex - total TS was about 350$).
Glad your mom is feeling better :)

What kind of updates are you expecting? All reports are indicating that the food isn't changing at all from what was served before the characters.
