I am trying to decide if I should order from GG or shop myself. Prices at GG seems high to me. Also we might "want" something we see while in the store. But i like the idea of it being there when i arrive and not haveing to fight traffic to find a store.
If you order from GG and it arrives while your not in the room how do you tip?

If I have a car, I shop myself, otherwise it's GG. If you're not in the room, they leave it with bell services. When you get back, just call and they'll bring it up. You can tip then. As far as tipping GG, there may be a tip added (or maybe it's just referred to as a delivery fee)

When you're placing your order, there's a place to leave the tip. That's what we always do because we're never there when the order is delivered.
Here's my take on GG vs shopping myself. In life you have two basic choices on many things; you can save time or you can save money but you can't save both. Which is more important to you in this case at the beginning of your vacation? How much is the convenience of having your groceries waiting for you at your resort worth to you?
If you create an account on GG website you can load up a shopping cart and then it'll remain saved until you place your order. The cart will remain there for as long as you need/want it. That way if you think of something after you set up your initial cart you can just add the item.

Yea I am leaning toward GG. I think time is more important then $$ while there. AND Dh would drive me to the store... which means impulse buying which means more $ in the end anyway. I may buy non perishables at home to vcart with me then order peroshable items from GG

We also do our own shopping (a mix of Sam's Club and Wal-Mart), but we stay in timeshares and do quite a bit of cooking, plus we stay long enough that we often have to do multiple grocery runs. I like to grill steaks, and I always like to pick my own.

I almost always let Garden Grocer do a "first run" for me. The last thing I want to do on a busy arrival day is figure out where the natural peanut butter is hiding in a store whose layout I don't have memorized. I don't worry about making sure I have everything, though---just enough to get me started, and stuff I *know* I need. I do a run later in the trip to backfill and/or pick out things I want to pick out.

Every trip we shop on our first evening and while I'm shopping I'm usually thinking "I wish I'd ordered groceries."

I'll be shopping the first night. What I usually think while I'm shopping is, "these freaking tourists act like they've never seen groceries before!" :D

We don't have any problem fitting in grocery runs. We're mainly at the parks in the mornings (and some evenings). Wal-Mart is open 24 hours, so one of us will usually make a run there the first evening, after the kids are asleep. Sams has more normal hours, but an afternoon trip there works fine with us. Either we'll split up (one of us go to Sams, the other put the kids down for a nap) or we'll all go and have lunch (can't beat $1.50 for a hot dog and soda!) and shop. The kids love Sams. They call it "Samples".

Charcoal, your trips are generally much longer than mine. I'd probably be less cranky about shopping on a month-long vacation.
