View Full Version : Magic Kingdom's Wishes Dessert Party

I just made reservations at 8:00 and Wishes is at 9:00. Here are my questions:
1. Is it worth the money? Lord knows we don't need to indulge in all those desserts, but I'm thinking of the convenience and good view perpsective. It's also DD's b-day.
2. When I went to book, there were 3 time slots - 7, 8 and 9. I was only offered the 8:00 slot, but I heard you are better off with the 7:00 time slot. Can anyone explain why?
3. We have birthday dinner ressies at 1900 PF @ 5:45. I was originally going to get a cake for DD, but if we do this, cake will definitely not be necessary. Am I better off doing cake and staying at 1900PF or doing the dessert party? I could just do the cake and then come back to the MK for Wishes only and call it a night.
4. I was also able to score a reservation for our last night as well. I'm thinking maybe this could be our "go out with a bang" thing instead of cramming it on DDs birthday night. Which do you guys think is better?
So, any input regarding this party would be greatly appreciated. I've read so many mixed reviews, but it still sells out. I've read that Tinkerbell flies right over you - DDs would LOVE that, but is it worth for just that????

We went last year and my never-excited-over-anything-teen LOVED it. The rarely seen smile that she gave me made it totally worth it. It almost seemed like Tink landed on the building we were in. It was absolutely the highlight of our trip last year.
I'm not sure why the different time slots are offered. I would think the 8:00 time would be the only one available, since Wishes is at 9:00.
I would suggest not cramming 1900PF and the dessert party in. I think that you would be way to stuffed from dinner to enjoy the desserts. We ate a 3:00 lunch, then no supper, just had an excess of sugar at the dessert party. That worked well for us.
We are surprising everyone with the party on our first night this year. Can't wait.

We just did this in June and we enjoyed it very much. Yes it is a bit pricey but the location is very good and the desserts are good, not great but yummy. You are correct that there are mixed reviews on this experience, however I would say that it is worth a try at least once. We would do it again, but it wouldn't be a "must do" for every trip. It seems some of the negatives have to do with the desserts not being replenished and guests not being able to get some of the treats. That was not our experience at all. A few times when the carts were empty or low it did take a few minutes for the CMs to get the desserts out, but they were definately replenished and everyone was able to partake without any issues. We did have a minor problem with the beverage station (it took a very long time to refill the milk) which a few people became vocal about but overall it really wasn't a big deal. It just took longer than you would have expected.
As PP said I don't unstand the various times slots either. Whatever time Wishes is the party begins an hour before. Also agree not to cram in too much food that day and we also used the dessert party as "dinner" that evening. Eating a full mean before hand will definately "ruin your appetite" (LOL!) for the desserts at the party. So I would probably go for doing it on your last night and "go out with a bang" as you said.
Enjoy your trip!

We did it once when DS was 3 because we thought it would help him see the fireworks better. Boy were we wrong, we had a table near the rails and people came right up and stood in front of them so DS hardly saw any of the show. That said, it was cool to do once as an experience, but I wouldn't add it to every trip.
Hmmmmmmm are you sure it wasn't just "searching" for those time slots? I'm not sure how an actual 9pm reservation for a 9pm Wishes would work.
It's overall value would depend on how busy Magic Kingdom is for Wishes and how crazy you're going to go on the buffet. It's certainly worth doing once, but for much less money you could all go to Main Street Bakery or the Confectionery and gorge on higher quality items of your choosing. That might be more fun than the party or it might not.

We went last year, and had the same experience as mommytoryan. We had a table right at the rail ... got excited to watch the show ... and some other people ran right up and stood right in front of our table. I said "excuse me ..." and they rolled their eyes and then loudly commented (with language I usually only use in traffic) how rude I was. Anyhow ... polyester covered keester wasn't what I wanted to see that night, but it's what I got to see. I also had the privilege of dealing with a very upset 8 year old as a result.
The desserts were semi-tasty, but like Josh said ... you're better off burning some snack credits on some really tasty treats and finding a better place to watch the fireworks. It wasn't worth the extra money, IMO.

From what I've read it's expected for folk to get up and stand at the rail to watch the fireworks. It's not a
sit down and watch event. Especially as not everyone is lucky enough to be assigned a 'table at the rail'.
Everyone is free to stand up and find a good viewing spot.
Which doesn't excuse rude comments on any side.

I've not been so I haven't seen it first hand but I was wondering about the placement of the tables. Could one push their table up against the railing so no one could come stand in front of it ?

There's a recent discussion on the disboards... some of these tables (tables are preassigned before you arrive)
are under the overhang so no good view. Some low attendance nights folk were allowed to move their chairs to the
railing area... other nights they were told they couldn't move their chairs. It seems doubtful they'd let you move the
tables around given that.

Yes sorry to hear about rude comments, that is never acceptable.
I would like to add that we were one of those that got a table right near the rail in a perfect spot actually. However we were told by the CMs that everyone would stand once the show began and we should do the same otherwise we would not be able to see. I am not sure if we had overly nice CMs that night that they wanted to let us know this, but I had also read on line how people did that, so I was already prepared to leave my seat and stand at the railing.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. I'm torn on this one. I guess I'll wait and look for some more responses & reviews.
One thing is for sure. With a 5:45 dinner at 1900PF, there's no way we'll be able to enjoy those deserts. I'm thinking if I do keep it, I'll opt for doing it on our last night. Our last night is the Saturday of Columbus Day weekend so it will be busy at the MK. This might be a nice way to see the fireworks one last time before we have to go home. I'm sure they will add a second MSEP too. So, we can do the dessert party and then MSEP.
I guess I'll also plan on standing by the rail as soon as we're alowed to. I have read in many reviews that this happens so we'll be prepared.
Keep the reviews coming !!
BTW Josh, I put in 7:00 for the reservation and only 8:00 popped up. So, I'm still kind of baffled on the time slots. If I end up keeping, I will definitely report back!
