online check in

What exactly does online check in do for me? I had a reminder on disneyworld.com when I logged in today that I could do online check in as early as Sept. 7 for a Sept. 17 arrival date. Just wondering the benefits.

Theoretically, it would make check-in faster because there is a separate line for people that have checked in online and your packet/"materials" will already be put together. In practice, it isn't always faster because there are usually more people working the regular check-in line.

Although I thought I read here that you can use the regular line for online check-in as well... basically you can use
whatever looks shortest.

We used online check-in back in July, and we arrived at CBR before 7 am. They had our packet waiting for us, the cast member on staff asked if we were the family arriving early (using our surname), and our room was ready all before leaving for our first day. We had time to check out our pirate room before heading to Animal Kingdom for morning EMH.

Granted, that could be a "one-time only" experience, but check-in was less than 10 minutes (which of course could also have been because we arrived before 7 am).

I think we will be doing online check in this year as well. We will be arriving early, around 8:00 am and I would love for our room to be ready. We are also arriving on 9/17 so hopefully it won't be that crowded and it will be an easy check in..

I will go ahead and do it when I can. I think Sept. 7th is when I can do the online check in. I'm hoping it is as quick as some of you have mentioned.
