View Full Version : Messed up Credit Card Deposit...is there anything I can do?

I'm not sure where to post this question so I apologize if this is the wrong place.

I booked my room only reservation yesterday via phone with Disney directly. At the end of our conversation the gal realized that she charged the ENTIRE amount to my card instead of just the deposit amount.

She tried to cancel it, but said she couldn't and she had to do a refund for the difference (total price minus the correct deposit). So I said ok and then she told me it would take 1 to 2 billing cycles to come off my card!!!:RpS_scared:

I tried to plead my case, to no avail. She did apologize profusely, but that won't help me pay the bill when it comes due 6 months before I was ready to pay it (and w/o any discount code applied - I just wanted to snag a room for sure!)

So now what? I still do not see a pending credit on my visa, but I don't know how quickly I would see that anyway b/c I've never really looked before. Do I have to just pay the whole amount and then wait for the refund? I mean, technically I can take the money out of savings and then the next few months I would just a a negative credit card balance.

If I don't pay it - and wait for the refund to process - I will incur charges which I don't want. I always pay my card in full.

Any suggestions? I feel badly for her, but I also feel badly for ME! It was her mistake and now I have to suffer.

My only hope is that we did miss the cutoff for this billing cycle so it has until about Aug. 6th to show up.

So she did put in for a credit, right? If so you shouldn't have any extra charges. It will post the full amount then in a few days post the refund amount. It should all happen before the 20 something day grace period that credit cards have. I would give it 5 days or so then check to see if the credit has posted. In the mean time don't stress over it! Or at least try no to.

The CMs are required by Disney to say it could take 1 -2 billing cycles. (I discussed this with a very knowledgeable CM in the past and he gave me the whole scoop!!!) The thing is that some credit card companies will choose not to post the credit for up to 2 cycles (kind of shady if you ask me but know that it isn't Disney.....it is the credit card company doing it.) That said, in 98% of the cases, the credit will appear on your card within 10 days. And this has been the case for me and all of my client's who have had money refunded to them for one reason or another.

I think that for me.....the bigger concern would be if the CM who originally messed up the payment correctly sent through the refund. I'd be inclined to call Disney back and have a different CM verify that the credit was made. Other then that, I'd just wait until next week to start looking for the credit. Then if I didn't see it.....I'd call my credit card company to see what the story is.

Thanks so much gals - I do feel a little better now. Sorry if my OP seemed a bit snippy! I guess it's the stress:RpS_smile:

I think I will take your advice and call them to verify the refund has indeed been processed. Then fingers crossed!

You didn't sound snippy at all. I totally understand the stress.......it would be the "stress" part that lead me to talk to the CM about the whole 1-2 cycle thing in the first place!!!!

Nope, not snippy at all.

Did you happen to charge this to your Disney Visa? If so, you have 6 months interest free to pay for the trip. So technically you don't have to make payments on it initially. You could wait until the 6th month, then pay the whole thing off with no penalty.

Unfortunately, no. I actually did think about that too after I hung up! Great thought though!
